TransLink Pass Subsidy: Save on commuting costs with a 50% subsidy on TransLink passes Additional employee discounts and perks available *Eligibility based on employment status Detailed Overview The Unit Clerk performs duties within the preadmission clinic such as transcribing and processing physician orders, arranging patient tests, scheduling and booking appointments related to scheduled surgeries (e.g. anesthetic clinic, laboratory), acting as a communication link between the clinic and other departments/doctor's offices/hospitals, and performing clerical, data entry and receptionist duties. Responsibilities Coordinates preadmission bookings by scheduling and booking appointments for departments such as: Anesthetic Clinic, Physio, Dietary, Lab, Diagnostic Imaging and Language Services. Receives appointment requests, makes follow-up appointments, adjusts arrangements and assigns to the appropriate time, date and location. Acts as a communication link for the clinic by contacting other departments/hospitals. Contacts appropriate areas such as doctor's office, Laboratory, O.R. Booking to confirm appointments. Verifies patient information and informs patients as to pre-operative testing and instruction. Prioritizes, processes, coordinates and transcribes physician orders and performs necessary follow up action. Performs receptionist duties such as receiving and directing clients and visitors, answering the telephone, receiving/relaying messages, answering routine inquiries or referring calls as appropriate; informs appropriate staff of patient arrival. Provides clerical service such as ordering supplies, photocopying, sending and receiving faxed correspondence, keyboarding and word processing; receives, sorts and distributes incoming mail. Prepares outgoing mail for distribution. Sets up, maintains, completes and files patient charts by performing duties such as preparing labels, assembling and addressographing new charts, checking charts for completion, attaching documents and forwarding to Health Records as required. Maintains departmental filing system. Maintains timekeeping and other staff related records by completing daily sign-in sheets, transcribing rotation hours by copying information onto required forms and/or entering information into the computer according to established procedures. Compiles and tabulates statistical data as requested. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from an approved Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one (1) year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Skills and Abilities Ability to keyboard at 40 w.p.m. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to operate related equipment. Ability to organize work. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
