At ALS, we encourage you to dream big.

When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data-driven insights to build a healthier future.

The Role

ALS is seeking an experienced and professional Senior Metallurgist to join our metallurgical services business based in Balcatta, Perth, WA. This is a full-time permanent position working standard weekday hours.

Reporting to the Principal Metallurgist, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality metallurgical testwork programs and providing expert technical guidance to clients and internal teams alike. This is not a FIFO mine site position.

Requisites for the position are:

  • A strong background in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy is essential.

  • Experience in managing or mentoring technical teams in a laboratory or pilot plant environment would be highly desirable.

  • Candidates with prior client-facing or project management experience will be highly regarded.

  • A proven track record of delivering comminution, flotation, leaching, or gravity testwork programs would be a significant advantage.

The day to day

  • Lead and oversee the planning, execution, and interpretation of metallurgical testwork programs across a range of commodities and processing techniques.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to metallurgists, department supervisors, and technicians.

  • Liaise directly with clients to understand project objectives, present results, and deliver high-quality technical reports.

  • Review and interpret testwork data, preparing detailed technical reports and recommendations.

  • Support the development and improvement of testwork procedures, protocols, and methodologies.

  • Assist in the planning and oversight of bench-scale and, at times, pilot plant testwork programs.

  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with health, safety, and quality standards.

  • Maintain accurate records and uphold a high standard of data integrity throughout all projects.

The Essentials

Candidates should possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Minerals Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience in metallurgical testwork, mineral processing, or a related field.

  • Strong communication, organisational, and time management skills.

  • Strong technical knowledge across one or more areas: gold recovery, comminution, flotation, hydrometallurgy, gravity separation, or solid-liquid separation.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet client deadlines.

  • Excellent technical report writing and data interpretation skills.

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members.

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.

  • Proficiency in relevant data analysis and reporting tools (e.g., Excel).

  • Alignment to ALS core values and culture.
