Job description

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Junior Environmental Planner to join our CIMA+ team and contribute to our growing environmental planning practice in Ontario. This role is well suited to an early‑career professional with a strong interest in environmental planning, environmental assessments, and infrastructure projects, and a desire to grow within a collaborative, multidisciplinary consulting environment.

This position will be based out of our Ottawa Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team of planners, engineers, and environmental specialists in the delivery of transportation infrastructure projects. This includes coordination, collaboration, communication, and technical support throughout project delivery.
  • Provide planning and environmental support across a range of projects, including Environmental Assessments (Municipal Class EA, MTO Class EA, Federal Impact Assessment, and other planning studies), infrastructure projects, master plans, and background studies. Tasks may include reviewing background information, conducting plan and policy reviews, and supporting the evaluation of alternatives and mitigation measures.
  • Assist with the preparation of environmental planning and approvals documentation, such as Environmental Study Reports, Project Files, technical memoranda, background reports, and public‑facing materials.
  • Support stakeholder, public and Indigenous engagement programs by assisting with outreach activities, information sharing, tracking comments, preparing materials and presentations, and contributing to consultation documentation.
  • Assist with the review and synthesis of data related to environmental features, land use, growth, and infrastructure planning to inform project recommendations.
  • Coordinate technical inputs from team members and subconsultants, under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Contribute to proposal development by assisting with review of Request for Proposals and preparation of supporting materials.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, Transportation / Civil Engineering, or a related field required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Eligible for or working toward professional designation with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI - RPP) and Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), or Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng.) or a related professional body.
  • Relevant experience in environmental planning, environmental assessment, land use planning, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Ontario environmental and planning legislation and processes, including the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, Planning Act, and related policy frameworks.
  • Understanding of environmental considerations related to infrastructure planning, including natural heritage, water resources, cultural heritage, and land use compatibility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing clear and concise technical and public‑facing documents.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for report writing and presentations. Experience with GIS, graphics, or data visualization tools would be considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
