JOB ROLE SUMMARY
Systems Engineers ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of information systems that support core organizational functions and customers. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all operating systems assigned. The Systems Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT systems.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Formal mentorship concluded
- High complexity assignments - augmentation and/or independent segment owner
- Moderate complexity assignments - augmentation (1 or >) or owner
- Low complexity assignments - owner (1 or >)
- May lead another individual
- Ability to see whole picture
- Responsible for the remediation of server incidents including timely responses, thorough analysis, and all proper follow up actions
- Responsible for responding to service restoration calls
- Responsible for the overseeing of incident queues to ensure service level service levels are met
- Responsible for reducing repeating incidents by performing deep analyses of tickets, adjusting thresholds, and/or performing root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences
- Determines need for and responsible for installing Operating Systems patches including pre and post level reporting
- Maintains accurate list of all server component code levels and alerts leadership when codes are approaching threatening levels
- Follows documented procedures for installing, maintaining and administering server hardware and software environments
- Possess a general understanding of server hardware components
- Possess a general understanding of network design, components and computer systems interactions
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position does not have direct reports but may mentor less experienced associates in the role.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience
- Basic understanding of server computing
- OS Platform Requirements (varies on OS platform of position):
- Windows 1-2 years hands on administration of Windows OS environments
- VMware 1-2 years hands on administration of VMware environments
- Linux 1-2 years hands on administration with RHEL or other Linux environments
- HPUX 1-2 years hands on administration of HP-UX OS environments
- Solaris 1-2 years hands on administration of Solaris OS environments
- AIX 1-2 years hands on administration of AIX OS environments
Preferred
- Basic understanding of ITIL framework
Travel %
10%-20%
