Your Recipe for Impact — What You’ll Do

As a Sr. Accountant, you play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of Whataburger’s financial information. Your work directly supports strong decision‑making and operational confidence across the business. You make a difference by leading complex accounting activities, strengthening controls, and delivering insights stakeholders rely on. Day-to-Day Ingredients — Responsibilities

As a Sr. Accountant, you will:

• Perform complex reconciliations, analysis, and financial reporting
• Review accounting transactions for accuracy and completeness
• Lead portions of month‑end and year‑end close processes
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards, policies, and internal controls
• Analyze financial results and provide insights to stakeholders
• Prepare audit documentation and respond to audit inquiries
• Drive process improvements and support system enhancements
• Serve as a resource and provide guidance to less experienced team members

What You Bring to the Table — Required Experience

As a Sr. Accountant, you must have: 

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience with complex reconciliations and financial analysis
• Strong understanding of accounting standards and internal controls
• Experience supporting close processes and financial reporting
• Proven ability to analyze data and communicate insights clearly
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem‑solving skills

Extra Toppings — Desired Experience

As a Sr. Accountant, we prefer you to have: 

• Experience supporting audits or external reporting requirements
• Exposure to accounting system implementations or enhancements
• Experience driving process improvement or automation initiatives
• Background mentoring or coaching junior team members

Where & How You’ll Work

This role is based at the San Antonio Home Office, working on‑site Monday through Thursday with remote flexibility on Fridays. In this role, you’ll have strong collaboration with leadership, across cross-functional teams, and with external partners to align capabilities with restaurant realities. The work environment is fast‑paced and requires sound judgment, strategic thinking, and strong collaboration skills. Full‑time availability is required, with occasional extended hours based on business needs, along with occasional travel to properties, project sites, and external meetings. Candidates must reside within commuting distance of the San Antonio Home Office.
