Job description
Overview Our client, Meyers, Roman, Friedberg & Lewis, a respected and versatile law firm in Cleveland, Ohio, is seeking a Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFO/COO) to serve as a key member of the firm’s leadership team, overseeing the business, financial, and operational engine of a dynamic law firm. This role ensures the firm’s strategy is financially sound, operationally effective, and positioned for sustained growth. The CFO/COO brings clarity to complexity - turning real-time data into insight and goals into execution. This is a highly visible leadership role for someone who thrives in environments where impact matters. If your leadership philosophy is grounded in collaboration, humility, and results - “less me, more we” - we invite you to consider this opportunity. EOE Responsibilities As CFO/COO, you will partner with the Managing Partner and Executive Committee to execute the firm’s documented 1-, 3-, and 5-year business goals through disciplined planning and operational leadership. You will own budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and KPI-driven analysis across billable hours, revenue, collections, A/R aging, utilization, and profitability—using data to spotlight growth opportunities leadership may not see. The role oversees firm infrastructure, including technology, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, facilities, leases, vendors, and major growth initiatives such as acquisitions or office build-outs. You will also manage vendor relationships and lead a team of accounting professionals, ensuring strong performance, accountability, and scalability. Qualifications The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and brings approximately 12+ years of progressive leadership experience across finance and operations. You are naturally curious, analytically strong, and comfortable processing large volumes of data to inform decisions and solve complex problems. You have a proven ability to grow organizations, manage strong personalities, and present multiple solution paths with sound judgment and flexibility. Law firm experience is a plus, along with hands-on fluency in Excel (advanced reporting and pivot tables), QuickBooks, CLIO, and NetDocuments.
