Position Overview

The Associate Buyer for Grants position will provide fiscal and compliance guidance to the Grants Compliance Goods Procurement Team within the Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP). This position will serve as a central administrative point of contact for faculty, investigators, college administrators for assigned requisitions/spend categories to ensure goods and services align to sponsor program grant funding.

The core responsibilities for these roles include:

  • Through consultation, reviews requisitions to determine appropriate fulfillment methods (e.g., Purchase Order (PO), Purchasing Card (PCard)) and issues POs and/or places and expenses purchases via PCard.
  • Applies knowledge of university, state, and federal policies and regulations when reviewing assigned requisitions—primarily non‑catalog supply purchases—to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Evaluates and reconciles requisition documentation for completeness and accuracy and applies knowledge of Uniform Guidance cost principles and procurement standards, international purchasing procedures and regulations, limited contract negotiation practices, and special or unique requirements (e.g., special category items, purchases involving human subject or animal protocols, and small purchase procedures).
  • Follows established procedures to administer workload within assigned transactions and spend categories under the supervision of the Team Lead.
  • Resolves routine and non‑routine procurement issues (e.g., match exceptions, open commitments, payment or delivery issues).
  • Completes expense reports for all PCard purchases in a timely manner.
  • Independently communicates sponsor guidelines, university policies and procedures, state and federal laws, and industry best practices to faculty, investigators, and college administrators for grant‑related purchasing activities associated with sponsor program funding.
  • May assist with onboarding and cross‑training new staff through job shadowing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in a professional capacity
  • One year of customer service and problem-solving experience
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and the Internet.  One year of experience and knowledge of federal or private agency sponsors, contract/grant regulations, procurement, and/or budgeting, accounting and financial management.
  • Experience with electronic research tools and financial management systems (preferably Workday).
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing financial transactions.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, federal or private agency sponsors, contract/grant regulations, and Ohio State University policy and procedures.

Additional Information:

Salary

The hourly range for this position starts at $22.93. The offer for this position will be based on internal equity, the candidate's qualifications, and the unit's available budget.
