Position Summary: As part of a dynamic inter professional team, the person in this role is responsible for case management/prime therapy of up to 5 older adult clients with a primary mental health diagnosis, often with complex medical needs; for creating strong therapeutic relationships with clients in individual as well as group therapies; for facilitating family systems interviews; for performing ongoing mental health and risk assessments; for performing cognitive assessments for all clients on the unit as required, and collaborating with other members of the team. Responsible for other related duties as required.
Program Summary: Geriatric Mental Health Program – a short-stay program for seniors who have primary psychiatric disorders who require assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to be able to return to the community. This is a voluntary program for those who are struggling with mental health conditions and who need more time for rehabilitation, improvement in their mental health and overall functioning.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a recognized Degree program in Occupational Therapy
- Registration with AAROT
- AADL authorizer is an asset
- Eligible for membership in CAOT
Experience
- Strong oral and written communication required.
- Previous mental health experience required
- Previous experience in group facilitation an asset.
- Previous experience in working with older adults an asset
- Previous experience in facilitating family systems interviews an asset
