SUMMARY:

Help define requirements, then design, code, test, implement and support critical business Applications. TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Demonstrated working knowledge of the following technologies:   PowerBuilder (version 10 or higher preferred)   Oracle (version 8 or higher preferred)   Microsoft SQL Server (version 2005 or higher)   Skilled in stored procedures, views, temporary tables, user-defined functions and relational data models   Proficient in T-SQL (query tuning a plus) Familiarity with the following software tools:   Database - TOAD or other Oracle database tools a plus   Reporting writing tool -- SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)   .NET, C#, and Visual Studio 2008 Visual Studio Team Foundation Server (TFS) / Visual Source Safe (VSS)   Visio   MS Office 2003 and above Miscellaneous:   Understanding of, and willingness to work within a defined SDLC   Understand QA principles and be able to Unit Test code before delivery to integrated testing and formal QA   Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully   Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, monitor own work to ensure quality and apply feedback to improve performance   Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands, and deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events   Identify, assess and communicate business risk on production support and project initiatives to all levels of the organization ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Works closely with other Developers, project managers, business analysts and QA analysts to define, code, test, implement and support high-quality reports   Performs unit and system testing on each assignment   Provides accurate time estimates for all development assignments   Collaborates with IT and business resources to identify the best and most cost-effective solutions for the business   Willing and able to work on both projects and production support efforts   Willingly shares technical knowledge with others   Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge within areas of responsibility   Complies with and supports all corporate, department and unit policies and procedures   Works independently, but keeps IT management, peers, project teams and business customers informed of projects, activities, risks and issues within assigned areas of responsibility   Performs other related duties as required or requested SUCCESS for the Application Developer position is measured by: 1) Consistently delivers solutions on time and within budget 2) Follows coding standards 3) Minimal coding bugs released into production 4) A positive and collaborative teamwork style SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None SOFT SKILLS Be at work and on time   Work independently   Respond to leadership direction with limited oversight   Manage self and solicit feedback to continually improve performance   Speak up if unsure of role, assignment, direction or individual performance   Focus on customer value and business results   Productively and collaboratively work in a team environment   Ability to multi-task on multiple technical efforts   Detail oriented Strong organizational skills   Computer skills   Exceptional written and verbal communication skills   Superb analytical skills   Excellent listening skills   Great interpersonal skills   Good negotiation skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business/Economics, or the equivalent in related work experience. Four to six years of experience in the insurance industry or a related financial services industry.
