Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football provides comprehensive medical care and injury management for BYU Football student-athletes, supporting their health, safety, and performance throughout training and competition. This role includes the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses; coordination of care and referrals to medical specialists; communication with coaches and families regarding athlete status and participation; and maintenance of accurate medical records. The position functions as an integral member of the football high-performance health and performance team, collaborating with physicians, physical therapists, strength and conditioning staff, sports science, nutrition, and mental health professionals, and reports to the Director of Football Athletic Training.

What You’d Be Responsible For
- Evaluate injuries/illnesses for the football team
- Provide safe and effective treatments for injuries and illnesses within the certified athletic trainer’s scope of practice and within the guidelines of sound medical practice
- Make referrals for athletes to other health care professionals as needed.
- Communicate with coaches regarding the health status and limitations of athletes
- Counsel with athletes and parents regarding their health status and options available for treatment
- Maintain accurate records of injuries, illnesses, treatments, and referrals.
- Mentoring student athletes in life skills
- Serving as a preceptor for students within the Master’s of Athletic Training program
- Provide practice, training and game coverage throughout the year
What Qualifies You to Apply?
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training (Must have required degree by start date)
- 3 years of NATA certification through the BOC
- Knowledgeable in evaluation and care of concussions
- Willingness to adhere to BYU (including the university’s Honor Code), NCAA, and Big 12 Conference policies and procedures
- All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend, which may be verified during the application process
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field
- 3 years experience with Division I or professional football team
- Demonstrated team player with a strong commitment to continued learning and improvement
This position requires the successful candidate to relocate and/or reside in Utah for the duration of their employment.
