Job description

Within PPGA, the Public Policy team works to shape the policy landscape across an array of issues (e.g. tax and IP proposals as well as a range of policy issues impacting access, coverage, payment and supportive policies impacting neurodegenerative diseases. Through collaboration with our colleagues in functional and therapeutic areas, we develop a Biogen vision for the policy and government affairs landscape and craft policy positions consistent with the Biogen vision.

Working with Biogen leadership, we help to position Biogen as a policy thought leader on issues impacting the development and, eventually, access to therapies in the neuroscience field. In collaboration with our colleagues in functional and therapeutic areas, we provide subject matter expertise on a wide range of policies impacting Biogen, its customers or the patients they serve.

The individual filling the position will contribute to the development of a more structured approach by which the PPGA group can track and manage regulatory actions by customizing the federal semi-annual and annual regulatory agenda for Biogen’s needs.

The project and position would be consistent with the following learning objectives.

  • Develop an awareness and familiarity with the process by which the federal government develops and issues proposed and final regulations for federal agencies and programs
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the individual agencies, e.g. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
  • Develop an awareness of the relevance of federal agencies regulatory actions on the biopharmaceutical industry and Biogen

To participate in the Biogen Intern or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, returning to the academic program fol

This is a full-time co-op position from July – December 2019 located in Washington, DC.

The Biogen Public Policy & Government Affairs (PPGA) Group works to shape the policy landscape for development and access of therapies for neurological diseases; internally, we provide subject matter expertise on policy and government relations.
