Job description
The role will include: developing the strategic thinking for critical pre-R2D work for rare disease including natural history and biomarker studies, planning the Phase I and/or Phase II studies and the overall Clinical Development Plans, building the portfolio in the emerging disease areas and partnering with Business Development and Research. A fully trained neurologist or experience in rare disease space would be suitable.
- Establish aggressive medical strategy for a series of rare retinal and rare neurodevelopmental disorders
- Integrate the scientific rationale, regulatory requirements, product development plan, and commercial goals to build a solid strategic framework for the CDP including clinical development timelines, incorporating key decision points and Go/No Go criteria.
- Oversight and interpret clinical trials, and interactions with other departments across the company including Global Clinical Operations, Biometrics, Commercial, Regulatory, Preclinical and Research
- Maintain and enhance excellent relationships with external partners and strategic alliances
- Build the presence of Biogen internally and externally in rare retinal and neurodevelopmental diseases
- Advisory board, KOL meetings
- Support the growth of the pipeline by
- Providing medical input and strategic thinking to the research group for pre-R2D compounds
- Supporting potential R2D of newly acquired compounds or existing assets with potential indication in rare neurological diseases
- Leading medical activities for compounds in partnership with external partners and/or for in licensing activities including due diligence for potential external assets (pre-clinical stage or clinical stage).
- Manage other MD(s) and possible clinical scientists
- MD, specialist ideally in psychiatry and/or neurology required.
- At least 5 years of industry including experience in early and late stage clinical development• MD, Specialty ideally in Neurology (adult or pediatric)
The Senior Medical Director in Ophthalmology, Pain, New Indications will provide strategic leadership for several aspects of our emerging disease portfolio including neurological diseases spanning retinal and neurodevelopmental disorders.
This person will also be responsible to determine whether other molecules in the Biogen portfolio or any Business Development emerging compounds are a good fit for the Company for additional indications.
