The Team
Our Bermuda Form team works on a broad and varied range of insurance and reinsurance disputes involving resolution in the English Courts and in international arbitration proceedings, with a particular focus on the Bermuda Form. Since the beginnings of the Form, our Bermuda Form team has successfully represented insurers and reinsurers on Bermuda Form arbitrations and related proceedings involving pharmaceuticals, pollution, product liability, professional indemnity, property & casualty, directors & officers, securities class actions and other large excess liability claims. The team regularly acts for Bermuda insurers and reinsurers, London market insurers and reinsurers and for other major insurers of the Bermuda Form. It has extensive experience in running high value, document intensive, coverage disputes to hearing at arbitration.
The Role
As a Senior Associate in Clyde & Co’s Bermuda insurance and reinsurance team, you will play a key role in advising a broad range of international and domestic clients on complex insurance, reinsurance, and regulatory matters. The role will involve working closely with partners on high-value coverage disputes, transactional and corporate insurance work, and advisory mandates, with a focus on the Bermuda market’s unique legal and regulatory environment. You will take on significant responsibility for managing client relationships, mentoring junior lawyers, and contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong technical expertise in insurance and reinsurance law, with proven experience advising on complex coverage, claims, and policy interpretation matters.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Bermuda insurance and reinsurance market, including regulatory frameworks, market practices, and cross-border considerations.
- Solid experience handling litigation, arbitration, and alternative dispute resolution in insurance/reinsurance disputes.
- Ability to manage and advise on large-scale, multi-jurisdictional matters and work seamlessly with international teams and clients.
- Proven track record in regulatory advisory work, including compliance with Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) requirements and broader international regulations.
- Strong drafting and negotiation skills across policy wordings, coverage opinions, settlement agreements, and commercial contracts.
- Commercial acumen and ability to provide practical, business-oriented advice to insurers, reinsurers, and brokers.
- Leadership qualities with experience mentoring junior associates and contributing to team development
- Excellent client relationship management skills with the ability to develop and maintain high-value client accounts.
