ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING (and other duties as assigned):
Provide direct student services including, but not limited to:
Counseling – providing professional assistance and support to a student or small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change, or other situations impeding student success. Does not provide therapy or long-term counseling in schools but is prepared to recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources
Provide indirect student services including, but not limited to:
Consultation – share strategies supporting student growth with parents, teachers, other educators, and community organizations.
Collaboration – work with other educators, parents, and the community to support student growth.
Referrals – support for students and families to school or community resources for additional assistance and information.
Schedule parent information sessions on topics including, but not limited to:
Social-emotional support systems at home
Childhood development
Identify and disseminate resources that promote social-emotional development for the school newsletter.
Observe students in a variety of settings, including but not limited to:
Classroom
Yard
Lunchroom
Maintain a safe environment for children receiving support.
Communicate with appropriate authorities as required by law and diocesan policy.
Communicate with parents of children receiving support.
Support faculty and staff in implementing best practices in the area of social-emotional learning.
Maintain confidentiality and safety of required records including student, family, and institutional information.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
Act as a role model of professionalism in a Catholic environment.
Support the philosophy, policies, and goals of the school, as well as the decisions made by the Principal and Administrators.
Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all students.
Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in the parent/student handbook and employee handbook.
Work as part of a team.
Attend faculty, administrative, and all other meetings as needed.

Working knowledge of child/adolescent growth and development and career education counseling theory.
Ability to apply knowledge of contemporary counseling practices to the needs of assigned students.
Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and instructional staff.
Excellent organizational, planning, and human relations skills.
Self-motivated, results-oriented, detailed-oriented, and reliable.
Able to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with principal, pastor, parents, staff, diocesan departments, and the general public.
Ability to work independently and with a sense of immediacy.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external).
Ethical and discreet team player.

QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM THE JOB SUCCESSFULLY:

Education and/or Experience:
Licensed LMFT, MFSW, PPS, LPCC
Master’s degree in Counseling or Education Counseling, preferred.
Two to five years’ experience as school counselor.
Leadership Skills:
Coaching/Mentoring
Language Skills:
Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
English, required
Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese) preferred
Technical Skills:
Proficient at word processing, presentation, and electronic mail applications.
Experience with school information systems, or willingness to learn.
Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, lifting, repetitive motion, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, stretching, twisting
Can operate standard office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, personal computer, telephone, and alarm system
Can lift 10 lbs. in compliance with safety standard.
Level of vision, hearing, speaking required
Other Requirements:
Able to work evenings and weekends if required
Must have an understanding and acceptance for the mission of the Catholic Church.
Must support the teachings and values of the Catholic Church and its mission and act as a Minister of the Faith.
Salary Range (per hour based on the education and experience):
$39.56 - $45.80
