Job description

Title: Senior Vertica DBA Location: Rancho Cordova, CA Duration: 6 months

Job Description: Seeking a senior level Vertica DBA with 5+ years of experience to support the data center migration of four Vertica Clusters. Responsibilities include analysis of current environments, design for upgrade and migration, install, configure, administer, troubleshoot and tune environments running on RHEL 6.x. The candidate should have experience with multiple versions, upgrades and performance tuning. Candidate should possess excellent organization and communication skills and be able to own communications with multiple stake holders including Product, IT and Data Center support staff. The candidate will be functioning as an individual contributor, as well as, produce various technical documents such as conversion procedures, backup and recovery instructions

Primary Responsibilities: • Install and configure Vertica in multiple 12+ node environments running on RHEL 6.x supporting 15 TB + databases • Execute Vertica version upgrades from 5 to 6 • Query and Partition performance tuning • Proactively monitor server and database process health to ensure availability and performance • Create shell scripts • Produce technical documentation, status reports and ensure issues are escalated in a timely manner • Mentor and guide team members Education: Bachelor degree

Experience: • Proven experience administering Vertica in virtualized and physical environments running on RHEL 6.x across various storage solutions including SAN, internal drives and SSD storage. • Proven experience designing Vertica to run a 24 x 7 enterprise multi-data center environment, including installation, configuration, backup, recovery and node failures • Proven experience planning and executing Vertica version upgrades • Proven experience with data center migrations • Proven Linux/UNIX experience, including shell scripting • Proven ability to work in global environments with counterparts in remote offices • Resourceful, responsible, flexible, able to work unsupervised and dedicated to quality of work

Working Conditions: Onsite during normal business hours in San Francisco or Sacramento. Some evening or weekend work required during migration, migration testing or production down issues.
