Detailed Overview Under general supervision and reporting to the Activity Co-ordinator, Fraser Hope Lodge, the Activity Worker carries out established recreational/leisure activity based programs designed to embed recreation/leisure in the lives of residents to facilitate quality of life experiences and to create the ambiance of a home-like setting. Responsibilities Carries out resident recreational/leisure programs such as arts and crafts, music, gardening and community outings as directed; sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for activity projects, teaches the techniques of related activities to residents. Carries out resident recreational/leisure activity programs outside the facility; checks that residents have appropriate clothing and necessary equipment for the activity; confirms details of proposed activity with nursing staff/medical staff; coordinates the movement of residents during the activity and teaches the techniques or related activities. Oversees the residents' activities and reports problems and/or changes to the Activity Coordinator or designate. Works with Activity Co-ordinator and facility staff assisting in problem solving. Provides direction to volunteers during recreational/leisure programs and demonstrates related techniques as required. Attends client case conferences and other meetings as assigned to provide input. Maintains inventory of equipment and materials and reports supply needs to appropriate staff. Performs clerical tasks as related to Activity/Volunteer Programs. As directed, transports residents on leisure trips, assisting residents getting in and out of the bus. Maintains records such as a gas and mileage log, resident participation and degree of involvement in activities. Oversees a variety of maintenance duties such as cleaning, lubricating, changing oil, replacing spark plugs; visually inspecting tires, lifts and tie down systems, recommending any repairs as required. Maintains a safe and tidy work environment for residents and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience Grade 12, completion of recognized recreational courses plus two years' recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted). Food Safe Certificate. Current certification in Basic First Aid & CPR Level C. Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal effectively with others. Ability to teach. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
