Job description

The successful candidate will provide Mental Health Nursing care to adult inpatient Psychiatry patients. The RPN role includes medication administration, delivering patient care to individuals suffering from a psychiatric diagnosis or acute symptoms.  

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Making behavioural observations, mental status and physical assessments of patients
  • Monitoring patients' responses to pharmaceutical care interventions and reporting findings to the healthcare team
  • Administering medications in accordance with prescriptions and organisational protocols
  • Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient care, observations and interventions
  • Providing ongoing communication with other team members, charge nurses and interdisciplinary staff to ensure continuity of care
  • Delivering therapeutic and compassionate patient care whilst maintaining professional boundaries
  • Participating in treatment planning and care coordination meetings
  • Conducting patient education and psychosocial interventions to support recovery and wellbeing
  • Implementing crisis intervention strategies and de-escalation techniques when required
  • Adhering to infection control, safety protocols and professional nursing standards
  • Completing incident reports and contributing to quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensuring effective handover of patient information during shift transitions

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Heart & Stroke approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
  • CPI certification required
  • 1 year minimum acute adult mental health experience required
  • Must possess a strong understanding of psychopharmacology
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues and risk assessments
  • Must possess good assessment and crisis intervention, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform well in stressful situations and problem solve.
  • Good team player
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record
  • Must be physically able to do the job, which involves heavy lifting and intensive physical effort

The ideal candidate is strong in patient centered care in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment and should be ready to drive change and innovation. We require a person with good communication skills with a clear patient focus with the ability to manage execution and to foster teamwork and cooperation.

Hours: Various rotating 12 hour shifts - Days & Nights; (Hours subject to change based on operational requirements)

Salary:  $36.08 to $39.02 per hour
