Summary of Job Duties:
The Farm Maintenance Mechanic's work location will be at the Lon Mann Cotton Research Station in Marianna, Arkansas. The position includes the operation, maintenance and repair of farm and research equipment used to prepare agricultural fields for planting, crop and soil maintenance, and harvest for both research plots and field-scale production. The incumbent will operate agricultural equipment including field preparation tools, tractors and combines, assist in mixing and applying herbicides and pesticides, mow and maintain alleys, roads, ditches, and rights-of-way on the research station land, assist in maintaining research plots, and assist in crop irrigation. Duties will include assisting with farm, equipment, facility maintenance upkeep and any other duties assigned by supervisors. Employee will maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop, machinery and field environments by administering safety policies and procedures. Use of appropriate safety gear and attending regularly scheduled safety training are required. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is expected, as is the ability to create and maintain good working relationships with others from diverse backgrounds. The position works directly under the supervision of Program Assistants and the Resident Director.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of farm equipment or a related field.
Knowledge Requirements
Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of farm equipment. Knowledge of farm equipment operations. Ability to determine problems and solutions concerning farm equipment malfunctions. Ability to perform major repairs on farm equipment. Skill in the use of repair tools and equipment.
