Job Description Summary

As the Test Technician, you will utilize acquired job skills, company policies, and procedures to solve problems and test the capabilities of jet engine components. The Test Technician will take directions from other team members to complete a wide range of tasks. Will work in a laboratory environment, work with other groups to build test setups, test components, and collect results for Engineering customers.

Essential Responsibilities:

In addition, as the Test Technician, you will:

  • With direction from other GE employees (Manager, Team Lead, Specialist, Customer) be proficient at troubleshooting, testing, assembly, disassembly and performing visual inspections
  • Test hardware and test enabling hardware set-up (work with other organizations when needed)
  • Build simple or very complex test rigs utilizing documentation and little guidance from other GE employees (Pneumatics, Static Load Lab, Vibes, Bearing Seals & Drive, Whirligig, and Control Wet Rigs)
  • Test data acquisition set-up- Set up or work with other organization (DSO) to set-up, checkout, and record data during test.
  • Test execution and test execution documentation (daily logs)
  • Follow test plan by carrying out documented test plan
  • Running facility systems-drive motors, Pneumatics, steam, oil, hydraulics, ovens, shaker tables, sirens, laser’s, etc.
  • Instrumentation- Temperatures, vibes, pressures, torque meters, gauge, strain gauges, load cells
  • Test troubleshooting- work with team in order to troubleshoot all systems performing the test
  • Basic test results reporting and documentation- be able to pull data from facility to provide raw data to team member and fill out basic test report/summary
  • Toolbox organization/standardize- lead and follow GE procedure on tool control
  • Support and perform work in compliance to all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies and regulations; have the willingness to stop work when an unsafe condition arises, have a proactive attitude towards creating a safe work environment built around LEAN principles (clean as you go mentality, 5S, etc.)
  • Interface with external organizations & internal supporting functions to define program schedules and test plans that support business needs
  • Work on assignments that are assigned to area, identify issues or problems with equipment, processes and/or products. 
  • Communicate work product to the appropriate persons.
  • Contribute to and collaborate with team to effectively deliver on priorities and resolve minor conflicts.
  • Periodically prepare and implement supporting work plans to update equipment to enhance lab capabilities.
  • Assist the Team Leader or manager in planning and scheduling of preventive maintenance activities.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Associate degree in an applicable technical discipline from an accredited school or institution {i.e. Aviation Maintenance, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Technology, Chemical Technology, etc.} (Or a high school diploma / GED with 1-2 years of work experience in a manufacturing or testing environment)

  • Experience working in a jet engine testing environment
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
