HSE & Facilities Coordinator

Victoria, BC (On-site) Full-time

Position Summary

We have a current vacancy for a HSE & Facilities Coordinator to join our Team in Victoria, BC. The Health, Safety, Environment & Facilities Coordinator will work closely with the HSE Manager of Canada as well as the Coastal Operations Manager to ensure all HSE standards are met as well as recorded in the appropriate systems to ensure ISO standard compliance. The HSE & Facilities Coordinator will also assume a fluid role within the local team and take an active role in day to day facilities operations as well as support the local oversight of the Integrated Facility Management (IFM) Program. As the HSE & Facilities Coordinator, responsibilities will be spread amongst multiple sites supporting both the AJISS contract and the MWAV contract with minimal supervision.

Essential Functions

Health, Safety and Environment

  • The HSE & Facilities Coordinator has local responsibility for ensuring the maintenance of the HSE Management System and its supporting tools, processes and required employee competencies (role profiles & skill requirements);
  • Assisting with reaching Corporate HSE targets and objectives;
  • Site contributor to ISO audit preparation and execution (evidence gathering, preparatory walk-throughs, etc.);
  • Support document generation and control of Site HSE documents in Chorus and SharePoint, such as forms, policies, manuals and guidelines, and work with Quality department for control and compliance of all published documents;
  • Assist with internal and external audits and prepare the facility for successful certifications;
  • Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee;
  • Report and investigate all accidents/ incidents and facilitate form completion;
  • Liaise, as needed with external services to ensure HSE compliancy;
  • Create, monitor and resolve action Items;
  • Assist in the maintenance of various databases, such as the site legal register and SharePoint repository;
  • Coordinate HSE training essential to all staff through local 3rd party training providers and/or Thales Internal Online Training Platform;
  • Maybe required to facilitate required HSE training onsite (Safe Ladder Use, Manual Lifting Techniques, Chemical Safety);
  • Provide training programs to fire wardens, first aid responders, and Joint Health & Safety Committees as required by law;
  • Maintain a training matrix in regards to HSE for all staff and ensuring documented records are kept;

Facilities

  • Oversees and works in collaboration with the company’s 3rd party Facility Management Services provider to ensure all facilities are maintained and operational;
  • Provide support as required to ensure the facilities continual operation and ensuring all preventive maintenance is performed;
  • Reports on the quality of services to the site Manager in accordance with the budget;
  • Has a general understanding of general facility equipment critical to operations;
  • May assist in the co-ordination of facility renovations/improvements including obtaining quotes and facilitating the implementation thereof;
  • Ensuring the facility continuously meets the appropriate security guidelines set out by the Industrial Security Directorate (ISD);

Flexibility in hours as occasionally on-call after hours may be required

Minimum Requirements

Skills and Abilities:

  • 2- 5 years experience with safety management systems and facilities management background considered an asset
  • Strong skills in all MS Office platforms.

Education:

  • Certificate in health, safety and environmental field is preferred

Preferred Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

  • HSE training: ISO 14001, ISO 45001
  • Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification
  • First Aid/CPR considered an asset

Physical Demands

Office / Warehouse Environment

  • At times, ability to work on computer for long periods of time
  • Ability for occasional standing and walking up to 2 hours daily
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) 75,000.00 – 95,000.00 CAD Annual.

This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. This range helps the Company make pay decisions as one data point among many. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
