Job description
Your mission
Turn numbers into decisions. You will sit within Finance and partner closely with C-level Executives, Investments, Trading, Treasury, Finance, Risk, and other key functions to distil complex commercial and financial data into sharp actionable insights that move the P&L and/or materially mitigate key risks. You also partner with IT to automate analysis and design dashboards.
What you’ll do
- Investments analysis: Partner with the Investment and Accounting teams to develop a deep understanding of Vitol's financials and investment performance across upstream, downstream and energy-transition and distil it into rigorous, board-ready analysis that informs capital-allocation and strategic decisions.
- Drive performance analytics: Build from a blank sheet in Excel to explain P&L drivers, margins, exposures and working capital; deliver variance bridges, sensitivities and stress tests that withstand challenge.
- Executive storytelling: Produce crisp, board-ready narratives and 1-pagers that cut through complexity; recommend clear go/no-go calls and next actions.
- Management reporting: Define KPIs and design live dashboards capable of providing instant high-level strategic insight and detailed granularity when needed.
- Strategy reviews: Lead periodic desk and regional reviews; identify value levers and drive next steps.
- New business analysis: Size opportunities, assess risks, design operating models for entries in new markets.
- Change leadership: Pilot, iterate and land new reporting/processes; track adoption and measurable impact.
Required Qualifications
- Proven top performance: 2 years at a top-tier strategy or M&A role (MBB strongly preferred) or an equivalently rigorous strategy/finance role in markets. Top-decile performer.
- Academics: Top-tier University degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field.
- Elite Excel: Fast, precise, creative. Dynamic arrays, nested logic, model structuring, scenario/sensitivity analysis, large-data pivots; Power Query/Power Pivot.
- Quantitative edge: You’re fearless with numbers and ambiguity; strong intuition for economics, statistics, risk and value drivers; can zoom from cell-level detail to first-principles theory.
- Executive-grade communication: Clear logic, concise writing, clean visuals, and presence with senior stakeholders.
- Ownership and pace: Bias to action, high standards, sound judgment.
- High EQ: you are humble, understand the importance of relationships and human connections and act accordingly.
Nice to have
- Python for analysis/data shaping (e.g., pandas).
- Power BI/Automate for executive dashboards.
- Prior exposure to commodities/energy or derivatives; familiarity with trading/risk data.
What success looks like in 12 months
- Measurable uplifts in desk profitability or capital efficiency tied to your analyses.
- Process change and/or system design that improves forecast accuracy and cuts cycle time materially for a key business process.
Interview process
- Expect 5 interviews (usually grouped in 2 steps), including brain teasers, mental math, a business case and an Excel-based working session.
