Job description

Lake Forest Animal Hospital, located on the outskirts of Lynchburg, Virginia is a small animal veterinary practice offering general practice, emergency, surgery, and dental services. Its team of veterinarians has a wealth of experience, one of whom — along with the practice manager — has been working there since it first opened. To date, many of its clientele have been bringing their pets to Lake Forest just as long for all of their veterinary needs. Lake Forest Animal Hospital has gained a reputation for its excellent care, recently earning the Lynchburg Living Bronze award for their level of dedication! Our close knit, family oriented, skilled and experienced team of doctors work extremely well together and we strive to provide schedules that work well for each member and their families.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning and Sanitation: Daily cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitizing of kennels, cages, and exercise areas to prevent disease. This includes laundry (bedding, towels) and cleaning food/water bowls.
  • Animal Care and Hygiene: Providing food and fresh water according to schedules, with possible bathing of boarding pets.
  • Health Monitoring: Observing animal behavior for signs of stress, illness, or injury, and immediately reporting concerns to veterinary technicians or doctors.
  • Exercise and Enrichment: Walking dogs, providing playtime, and ensuring pets have a calm, comfortable environment.
  • Support and Safety: Animal handling, moving animals securely, monitoring play time between dogs.
  • Documentation: Keeping accurate records of feeding, medication, behavior, and cleaning.
  • Client Interaction: Assisting with the boarding check-in/out process, including retrieving pet belongings.
  • Facility Maintenance: Maintaining cleanliness of the overall facility, including washing, drying, and stocking supplies.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Physical Strength: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and handle dogs of various sizes.
  • Compassion and Patience: Dedication to animal care, often in high-energy or stressful environments.
  • Communication: Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively with team members and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: Monitoring for safety hazards and adhering to sanitation protocols.
