Job description

Job Description Summary:Under the direction of the designated Foreman or Superintendent and is responsible for carrying out Foreman’s planning, organizing, and supervising daily painting operations. This role requires strong leadership, technical painting knowledge, and the ability to coordinate jobsite crew(s) while ensuring safe, high-quality workmanship that meets Swinerton standards. The Leadman Painter provides expert-level guidance on surface preparation, coating systems, application methods, and finish standards. Duties include assigning tasks, mentoring employees, coordinating with other trades and contractors, identifying issues proactively, and ensuring all work progresses according to schedule.

Job Description:Supervise and direct field painting personnel, provide instruction, and evaluate crew performance under foreman’s direction.

Train and mentor painters on proper techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards.

Ensure all work aligns with project plans, specifications, and Company expectations.

Review project plans, finish schedules, submittals, and coating specifications.

Perform and oversee all phases of painting work, including surface preparation, painting, and finishing.

Identify conflicts, missing information, or differing field conditions and generate RFI’s when necessary.

Assist Foreman with estimating labor, materials, tools, and equipment needed for painting scopes

Assist Foreman with tracking production rates for preparation, painting, and finishing.

Maintain work areas to meet cleanliness and organization standards.

Request needed materials, tools, and equipment in a timely manner.

Maintain records of daily operations and productivity.

Enter time daily for assigned crew in company time keeping system.

Coordinate with Foremen, General Contractors, and other trades in a professional manner.

Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and within schedule.

Utilize and enforce all OSHA and Company safety practices.

Develop, review, and manage JHA’s specific to painting hazards.

Ensure proper PPE and paint-handling procedures are followed at all times.

Promote a proactive safety culture and correct unsafe behaviors immediately.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum 1-3 years’ experience as a Journeyman Painter.

Proficiency in brush, roller, and spray applications.

Ability to read drawings, finish schedules, and coating specifications.

Strong knowledge of surface prep methods and coating compatibility.

Ability to estimate paint quantities, production rates, and material needs.

Physical demands may include lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling over 50 lbs with assistance of another team member or equipment

Ability to work safely in varying weather conditions and enforce safety practices consistently.

Basic computer skills.

Ability to account for timekeeping and basic communication once trained.

Reliable attendance, punctuality, and willingness to develop trade skills.

OSHA-10 required

Recognized certificate of trade qualification preferred
