About the Role: 

 

The Linux & IT Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting the organization’s internal IT systems, Linux environments, and cloud infrastructure. This role ensures system reliability, security, and scalability while supporting cross-functional teams and maintaining compliance with industry standards. The position plays a critical role in both day-to-day IT operations and infrastructure management, acting as a key point of ownership for multiple platforms and services. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Design, build, and maintain Linux-based system images for POS and other hardware deployments, including automation of imaging and provisioning processes. 

  • Install, configure, and document software deployments across on-premise environments. 

  • Support and maintain internal IT infrastructure, including user lifecycle management (onboarding, offboarding, and access control). 

  • Administer and maintain IT systems, tools, and platforms across identity management, endpoint management (MDM), networking, and email security. 

  • Provide day-to-day IT support, including troubleshooting hardware, software, networking, and access-related issues. 

  • Implement and manage patching processes to ensure systems remain secure and up to date. 

  • Support and maintain compliance with industry standards such as SOC 2 and PCI. 

  • Provide cross-functional IT support to teams including Support, Sales, Operations, and Development. 

  • Participate in IT projects such as system migrations, audits, and platform integrations. 

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in automation, system performance, and security. 

  • Maintain IT asset inventory and ensure accurate system documentation across platforms. 

Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience in Linux system administration and IT infrastructure support. 

  • Strong experience with Linux environments, system imaging, and deployment automation. 

  • Familiarity with identity and access management systems (e.g., Entra ID, Google Workspace). 

  • Experience with endpoint management tools (MDM), networking platforms (e.g., Meraki), and email security systems (e.g., Mimecast). 

  • Understanding of patch management, system security best practices, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, PCI). 

  • Strong troubleshooting skills across multiple systems and integrated environments. 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively. 

  • Strong documentation and communication skills. 

Additional Experience Preferred but not Required:

  • Experience building and maintaining custom Linux distributions or hardened images

  • Deep knowledge of Linux kernel tuning and performance optimization

  • Familiarity with system internals (process scheduling, memory management, I/O tuning)

  • knowledge on management tools like Ansible

  • Managing custom debian repositories

  • Managing DNS, DHCP, NTP services on Linux

  • Troubleshooting using top, htop, vmstat, iostat, strace, lsof

  • Debugging boot issues (GRUB, init systems like systemd)

  • Hardening systems using CIS benchmarks

  • Advanced Bash scripting

  • High-level analytical reasoning and strategic decision-making.

  • Proactive investigative mindset and a drive for continuous learning.

  • Results-oriented tenacity with a focus on project completion and accountability.

  • Advanced synthesis of complex technical documentation and regulatory frameworks.
