Job Description
The Associate Medical Director for Primary Care (AMD-PC) for Jefferson Medical Group (JMG) North is a physician leader responsible for supporting and advancing high-quality, safe, efficient, and patient-centered primary care across the region. This role provides oversight to primary care clinicians within JMG North and ensures alignment with Jefferson’s mission, standards, and strategic priorities.
The AMD-PC will allocate 0.7 FTE to administrative leadership and 0.3 FTE to clinical practice, maintaining an active patient-care presence while serving as a trusted, accessible leader for clinicians. The AMD-PC promotes a culture of wellness, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement, helping JMG achieve excellence in quality, safety, service, and financial stewardship.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
Provide medical leadership and operational oversight for primary care physicians and APPs within JMG North.
Serve as the primary clinical liaison between frontline clinicians and system leadership, supporting bidirectional communication, transparency, and timely issue resolution.
Model professionalism and foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing culture.
Mentor clinicians and practice leaders to support resilience, engagement, accountability, and retention.
Quality, Safety & Population Health
Advance Jefferson’s quality and safety agenda, ensuring clinicians remain informed, engaged, and accountable for key initiatives.
Lead efforts related to opioid stewardship, including monitoring prescribing practices and helping drive reductions in inappropriate use.
Champion adoption and effective use of the “On Point” safety system and other organizational safety tools.
Collaborate with Population Health leadership to support performance on quality metrics, gap closure, preventive care, chronic disease management, and value-based care initiatives.
Represent JMG North on relevant ACO committees, providing leadership and clinical insight.
Strategic & Financial Alignment
Partner with the SVP/Associate CMO and Administrative SVP for JMG North to meet strategic, operational, and financial goals.
Participate in regional planning and execution of initiatives aimed at improving access, efficiency, growth, and patient experience.
Provide clinical input into resource allocation, staffing models, care delivery design, and performance optimization.
Clinician Engagement & Communication
Conduct regular practice visits, rounding, and meetings to maintain a deep understanding of local needs, barriers, and opportunities.
Facilitate consistent communication of system priorities and changes to clinicians, ensuring clarity and alignment.
Support onboarding, orientation, and integration of new primary care clinicians.
Leads the longitudinal orientation program for new Primary Care physicians and Advanced Practice Clinicians within Jefferson Medical Group.
Clinical Responsibilities (0.3 FTE)
Provide direct primary care services consistent with professional standards and Jefferson clinical guidelines.
Maintain a high level of clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and patient satisfaction.
Serve as a role model for evidence-based practice, patient safety, and team-based care.
Qualifications
MD or DO degree required.
Board certification in a primary care specialty (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Medicine-Pediatrics).
Active Pennsylvania medical license (or eligibility).
Demonstrated leadership experience in a clinical or operational capacity preferred.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to clinician wellness, patient-centered care, and continuous improvement.
