Technical Writer II - Role Overview

 

As a Technical Writer II, you will own end-to-end documentation tasks/projects for Barry-Wehmiller machinery/product lines using structured authoring applications to scale quality, consistency, and speed. You’ll partner closely with global Engineering, Product Line Managers, and other cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality product documentation. A key component of this role involves contributing to our ongoing Content Management System (CMS) implementation and driving documentation excellence across the full product lifecycle.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical Content Development:

  • Create, review, and maintain comprehensive and well-structured documentation for Barry- Wehmiller machinery/products, services, and processes.

  • Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content, tailored to a wide range of audiences, including customers, internal teams, and for training purposes.

  • Work with global teams to understand and learn about the products and write procedures in technical documentation.

  • Own end-to-end documentation tasks using desktop and structured authoring applications to scale quality, consistency, and speed.

  • Ensure timely execution of documentation tasks in compliance with guidelines, best practices, and deliver defect free output.

  • Ensure all documentation adheres to applicable technical writing standards and guidelines such as ASD-STE100 (Simplified Technical English) and company style guides.

 

Content Management System:

  • Play an active role in the upcoming CCMS implementation program, contributing across all phases of the implementation roadmap from Foundation G Strategy through Optimization G Governance.

  • Work closely with the CCMS project team to do the pilot projects and develop the documentation workflows.

  • Support the migration of legacy content into the CCMS, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and proper metadata tagging throughout the transition.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Partner closely with global Engineering, Product Line Managers, and other cross-functional teams to deliver product documentation.

  • Coordinate with translation and localization teams to prepare documentation for multilingual publication in global markets.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify the opportunities for process improvements and workflow innovations and drive the activities to achieve meaningful results.


Qualifications G Skills

 

Essential:


 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Technical Communication, Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum 7+ years of active, hands-on technical writing experience with demonstrable content authoring across previous roles — portfolio or writing samples required.

  • Strong domain knowledge of engineering industrial machinery, including mechanical systems, hydraulics, electronics, or automation equipment.

  • Proven experience working with Content Management Systems (CCMS/CMS), including hands-on use of tools such as SchemaST4, Paligo, Author-it, IXIASOFT, Adobe Experience Manager, or equivalent platforms.

  • Proficiency in using desktop publishing tools like Adobe InDesign, Adobe FrameMaker (including XML driven), and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience contributing to new product development (NPD) projects and managing documentation deliverables against engineering development milestones.

  • Experience collaborating with global, cross-functional stakeholders across multiple time zones and cultures

.


Good to have:

    • Familiarity with translation management workflows and localization processes for multilingual documentation.

    • Knowledge of PLM tools like Windchill, Teamcenter, Infor XA, or BlueStar PLM is good to have.

    • Familiarity with CAD tools is an advantage.

    • Knowledge of the best practices used in the technical documentation industry would be a plus.
