Job description
Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. As a not-for-profit, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.
Our investigators hold appointments at Harvard Medical School and collaborate closely with the MGH Research Institute and the HMS Department of Genetics, contributing to scientific breakthroughs that advance human health. The department is home to internationally recognized researchers, including Nobel and Lasker Award winners and members of the National Academy of Sciences, reflecting a deep commitment to scientific excellence, innovation, and discovery.
In anticipation of a retirement this fall, MolBio seeks an experienced, highly motivated Web Developer who will take over management of existing web applications and, once the transition is complete, lead the technical direction of our technology stack going forward.
Come work with a dynamic, welcoming team known for its long‑tenured staff, many of whom describe the department as their second home.
Position Overview:
This position requires advanced capabilities in modern application architecture, security, and deployment to ensure continuity of critical departmental systems. The developer will be expected to design and maintain production‑grade, multi‑user web applications; implement secure authentication and authorization workflows, including SSO and integration with enterprise identity providers.
A comprehensive understanding of project and stakeholder management, paired with the ability to formally document technical processes and procedures will be essential for success in this role.
Incumbent expected to collaborate with scientists, administrators, and cross‑functional technical teams to design and develop custom web applications tailored to both administrative and research needs. Drive the adoption of modern web technologies, tools, and methodologies that will improve efficiency and productivity within the department. Own the end-to-end development of features and systems – from architecture and implementation to optimization and long-term maintenance. Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code that adheres to best web development practices and the broader enterprise security standards. Willingness to adapt to learn new technologies and approaches.
Experience that will set the incumbent up for success include: a solid 3-5 years of experience in modern full-stack web development. Frontend development experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and familiarity with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, Angular, Svelte). Experience with modern content management systems, including integrating and customizing CMS platforms for dynamic content delivery. Familiarity with version control, code reviews, monitoring tools, logging frameworks, and automated deployment practices. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills with the ability to understand and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences. Able to lead projects and manage stakeholders, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring successful deadline-driven outcomes are met. Extremely self-motivated, with great time management skills and exceptional attention to detail.
