BRICK currently has schools in two regions: Newark, New Jersey, and Buffalo, New York.
BRICK Gateway Academy Charter School is our Newark location. As a full K-12 continuum, we start our college-focused academic programming in kindergarten and yield better results for Newark students for generations to come. We are more than a school; we are a full ecosystem of supports from cradle to career. We provide our families with free wraparound services like prenatal care, career services, and housing support. Our high school alumni receive up to six years of post-graduate assistance. Overview
Role: Gateway Academy is seeking dynamic and engaging individuals to lead weekly enrichment classes for students in grades 5 through 8. The purpose of the Winning Wednesday enrichment program is to foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and real-world connections beyond the core academic curriculum.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: · Demonstrating a proficiency in working with black and brown students from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds · Plan and deliver a 60-minute, hands-on, and interactive enrichment class every Wednesday to students in grades 5–8. · Develop lessons that promote student engagement, exploration, and growth in areas such as the arts, STEM, media, entrepreneurship, wellness, global studies, service learning, or other specialized interests. · Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and collaboration. · Differentiate instruction to meet the varied interests and skill levels of students. · Collaborate with school leadership to align the class with the school's enrichment goals and character development initiatives. · Manage classroom behavior effectively and ensure student safety. · Track attendance and provide feedback to school leaders as needed.
Qualifications: · Experience working with Middle school students (grades 5–8) in educational or extracurricular settings. · Strong knowledge or passion in a particular enrichment area (e.g., coding, music production, drama, robotics, culinary arts, design thinking, etc.). · Strong classroom management and communication skills. · Creativity, flexibility, and a passion for engaging students in meaningful learning experiences. · Current authorization to work in the United States – A candidate must have such authorization by his or her first day of employment.
Salary, Goals and Employment Period
· Must be available for one 60-minute class each Wednesday during school hours (8 am-1pm for 40 weeks) August 25th - June 18th. · Additional time required for planning, preparation, and any necessary coordination with staff. Strong knowledge or passion in a particular enrichment area (e.g., coding, music production, drama, robotics, culinary arts, design thinking, etc.). · Part-Time. Compensation is $45/hour.
