Senior Resource Efficiency and Sustainability Manager – JLL
What this job involves:
As a Sustainable Operations Manager, you'll serve as the strategic lead driving energy efficiency, cost savings, and sustainability performance for a major client's real estate portfolio in Cincinnati. Working in direct collaboration with the client's sustainability team, you'll develop and implement comprehensive programs that deliver measurable environmental and financial results across energy, water, and waste management. This role positions you as the primary catalyst for sustainability integration across the entire real estate lifecycle—from site selection to decommissioning—while coordinating with global JLL teams and client stakeholders. You'll combine technical expertise in building systems with strategic program leadership to embed sustainability thinking into every operational decision, ultimately advancing both JLL's market-leading sustainability practice and our client's ambitious environmental goals.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Lead development and optimization of multi-faceted sustainability programs focused on measurable cost savings through energy reduction (electrical, natural gas, fossil fuels, refrigerants), water conservation, and waste diversion initiatives
- Conduct remote energy audits by accessing client building management systems, identifying conservation opportunities across HVAC, lighting, and mechanical systems, and developing implementable tactical plans
- Manage energy, water, and waste data collection and reporting processes while serving as primary point of contact for facility managers, energy champions, and client stakeholders at all organizational levels
- Engage cross-functionally with JLL teams (technology, finance, projects, facilities management, procurement) to integrate sustainability initiatives, remove implementation roadblocks, and drive program adoption
- Develop and secure state, federal, and utility incentives while leveraging AI tools and sustainability management systems to identify savings opportunities and monitor KPI performance
Required Qualifications:
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credential conferred by the Association of Energy Engineers and university degree in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field
- 10+ years of experience in sustainable operations, commercial building engineering, building science, or facilities management with demonstrated strategic program implementation
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and building automation systems with proven ability to conduct remote energy audits and develop energy conservation measures
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills with demonstrated experience influencing stakeholders at all organizational levels, including upper management and C-suite executives
- Strong project management capabilities with track record of strategic sustainability integration, program ownership, and delivering results against KPIs in large multi-dimensional organizations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Ohio or reciprocal state with advanced degree demonstrating mastery of building systems and sustainability aspects
- Applied experience in building auditing, commissioning, retrofit design, or working with corporate clients and commercial property managers with understanding of landlord-tenant relationships
- Advanced understanding of Greenhouse Gas Emission scopes, reporting frameworks, regulatory compliance, and municipal energy and sustainability regulations
- Expertise in decarbonization strategies, embodied carbon, circularity, climate risk assessment, and experience with utility and waste data analytics platforms
- Experience developing case studies, delivering presentations and training programs, and contributing to new business development initiatives
