The Opportunity Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Power Production - Hydro, Wind & Solar Location: Lakeside, NS - Halifax - On site Type of Employment: Regular, Full-Time Closing Date: June 3, 2026 We are currently seeking a Manager, Dam Safety, to join our Power Production – Hydro, Wind & Solar team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Plant Manager of Hydro, Wind & Solar, you will spearhead strategic dam safety initiatives and drive comprehensive risk management efforts across Nova Scotia Power's infrastructure. Key elements of this role include: As Manager, Dam Safety y ou will be responsible for ensuring that emerging risks related Nova Scotia Power’s dams are identified and appropriately mitigated. This role involves providing advice to Nova Scotia Power’s senior management team and the Hydro & Wind operations on matters related to dam safety and of the public safety around dams and hydro systems . Primary accountabilities include: Develop Dam Safety Team such that responsibilities are clearly defined and executed on Accountable for maintaining operating budget, compliance with capital governance requirements, compliance with safety and environmental programs Oversight and execution of NS Power’s Dam Safety and Public Safety around Dams programs. This includes accountability for the ongoing assessment of the condition and safety of dam structures by means of monitoring, surveillance, dam safety inspections and dam safety reviews. Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills, with experience fostering effective relationships with contractors, vendors, and cross-functional partners. Secondary accountabilities include: Accountable for the completion of dam safety reviews and flood studies, including managing consultants and providing expertise related to dam safety practices. Accounta ble for the oversight and maintenance of Emergency Preparedness Plans, including the planning and facilitation of emergency exercises and exercise critique. Participate in dam inspections, commenting on dam inspection reports, and maintaining a documented deficiency list for all dam structures. Keeping informed of Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety Guidelines and requirements. Keeping informed of industry developments, standards, regulations, and codes. Contributing to a work environment based on mutual trust and respect while carrying out all work in a safe and effective manner. The successful candidate will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under the direction of the position by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupation Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. The applicant will be accountable for environmental management system processes and initiatives. You will have an insatiable desire to continuously improve safety performance and drive customer value. This role will require you to travel to various locations across Nova Scotia for work at Hydro sites and other NSPI locations. You will be expected to manage your own time, traveling outside of regular working hours as required, and occasionally stay overnight. You must be available for emergency after-hour consultation and emergency restoration work. These skills will make you successful: To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below: Education & Experience: A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology Diploma that provides a strong technical foundation for dam safety management. 8 + years experience in progressively more responsible management roles and leading teams is considered an asset. Experience directly related to dam safety, and the detailed design and project management of civil and hydraulic structures is ideal. D emonstrated strong technical, analytical, organizational, management and leadership skills. Skills & Additional Requirements Experience with preparation and review of engineering technical specifications. Ability to prepare and interpret engineering drawings and reports. A collaborative professional with exceptional communication skills, demonstrating high initiative, adaptability in presenting to diverse audiences, and proven resilience in high-stakes environments. Have strong interpersonal skills across many disciplines to own and build relationships in a cross-functional structure. Proven experience building and developing teams or programs is required . Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to hydro sites across the province. Personal Attributes: Experience fostering and maintaining relationships across organizations, including contractors, consultants, and government organizations. The applicant must work well independently using initiative, judgment, and resourcefulness.
