Intermediate Accountant

Position Summary: 

This position reports to the Controller and is located at our Head Office. The role supports the finance group with timely completion of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reconciliations, working papers, various financial and government reports.  The position also provides oversight of billing and receivables, month-end procedures, and is a business partner to various internal administrative teams. 

Key Responsibilities Include: 

• Daily Bank reconciliations for multiple legal entities 

• Working paper reconciliations 

• Benefit reconciliations including extended health benefit carrier billings and related entitlements. 

• Internal/government reporting including: EWRB/Occupancy Reports 

• Update market loss-monthly reconciliation 

• Advise and support Resident Services Managers 

• Process monthly charges and creating corresponding EFT batches 

• Processing monthly and annual journal entries, including amortization schedules 

• Payroll accruals 

• Tracking shared utilities 

• Issuing Rent Refunds 

• Other add-hoc duties or projects as assigned

• 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience in a medium-to-large company, and able to work independently with minimal supervision 

• Has an undergraduate degree, certificate or diploma in accounting 

• Pursuing a certified accounting designation (CPA) is not required but preferred 

• Knowledge of accounting principles and best practices (ASPE) 

• Knowledge of residential and commercial real estate accounting would be an asset 

• Ability to manage competing deadlines 

• Advanced knowledge of financial accounting software (Yardi preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite; including pivot tables and vlookups 

• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to see the big picture while maintaining high accuracy  

• Excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication and a team player
