Job description
The Senior Director, Education and Continuing Professional Development is a visionary leader responsible for strategy, strategic operations, innovation, and execution of a cohesive, data-informed educational experience across ACOG’s educational programming ecosystem, including 1) continuing medical education (CME) and non-CME programming and 2) in-person, virtual, and other asynchronous programs. This senior leader will work with organizational leadership to ensure educational programming aligns with organizational strategic goals, brand identity, and evolving educational and professional development needs of members. A thought leader in medical education, workforce, and professional development, including well-being, the Senior Director will work across departments to drive engagement in program development.
Note: This position is considered Hybrid and will need to commute to ACOG's office located in Washington, D.C.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This position does have direct supervisory responsibilities, which may include serving as a coach and mentor for those they supervise.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Educational Strategy & Innovation
- Collaborate with the Chief for Education, Workforce, and Well-Being and executive leadership to develop comprehensive strategies for ACOG’s educational and professional development portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and goals.
- Collaborate with organizational leadership, including Publishing and Product Development, Informational Technology, Marketing and Communications, and Membership teams to develop an integrated educational strategy and roadmap that aligns with organizational priorities and brand identity
- Lead a data-informed approach to decision-making, leveraging web analytics, audience engagement metrics, survey data analysis, and social insights.
- Contribute as an educational thought leader, evaluating the impact of emerging technologies and innovative approaches to enhance the educational experience of members with ACOG educational content.
- User Experience & Personalization
- Work with cross divisional leadership to develop and support cohesive, user-centric journeys across platforms and content delivery modes to deliver high-quality educational experiences for ACOG audiences.
- Maintain a holistic view of the members’ educational journeys, identifying key touchpoints, pain points, and optimization opportunities.
- Oversee efforts to enhance usability, accessibility, and member acceptability of educational programming through cross divisional efforts.
- Data Strategy & Analytics
- Collaborate across divisions to inform a comprehensive educational and professional development data strategy for analyzing user interactions and measuring performance across programs
- Proactively and productively partner with internal teams to establish KPIs and drive continuous improvements in content effectiveness and user engagement
- Develop dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights to leadership and stakeholders
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Effectively collaborate with cross-divisional teams to ensure alignment of educational and professional development program strategies with organizational messaging and goals
- Act as an educational and professional development liaison across departments, ensuring content support of member educational and professional development and overall engagement
- Team Leadership & Program Oversight
- Provide strategic and operational leadership of the Continuing Professional Development team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and mission-driven culture.
- Develop team capabilities and workflows that support sustainable cross-teams engagement.
- Serve as senior leader for educational initiatives, ensuring continuity during team transitions, driving milestone execution, and aligning projects with broader organizational goals
- Operations & Content Strategy
- Prioritize, effectively contribute to, and streamline content development and distribution across internal teams
- Guide teams in balancing short-term performance needs with long-term growth initiatives
- Ensure continuous alignment between educational and professional development programming efforts and annual strategic objectives
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Senior management leadership with deep understanding of and experience in medical educational, well-being, and professional development programming.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical specialty national workforce landscape
- Comprehensive knowledge of continuing medical education accreditation processes and comprehensive experience with ACCME processes and requirements.
- Comprehensive knowledge of scholarly peer review processes necessary for the build of both in-person and asynchronous educational programs.
- Strong business acumen with ability to implement strategic plans and manage operational budgets.
- Excellence in external stakeholder management, including volunteer leadership, external partners, and diverse professional communities.
- Excellence in internal stakeholder management and engagement, including peer staff leadership, direct reports, and diverse staff teams.
- Advanced analytical skills with experience in complex data set visualization, including use of dashboards, that allows data-driven decision making and performance optimization.
- Experience with user research methodologies including interviews, usability testing of programming, and data analysis.
- Outstanding communication skills with ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences, both within and outside of the organization, including medical professionals and senior leadership.
- A collaborative, engaging leadership approach with demonstrated excellence in building teams both within and across unit divisions.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in education administration preferred, experience in non-profit, medical association experience preferred.
- Minimum 12 years of Director level leadership experience in medical/scientific educational programming, educational content strategy in national professional association leadership.
- Minimum 10 years of senior management experience supervisory responsibilities, with demonstrated excellence in managing multi-disciplinary teams and leadership of complex educational program portfolios.
- Demonstrated experience with peer-reviewed journal and scholarly publishing programming.
