Job description

Overview The Tax Specialist reports to the Tax Manager assisting in the preparation of Federal, State and Local Partnership and other related tax returns and supporting schedules. The Tax Specialist will also remit tax payments electronically, submit check requests, track payments and refunds, prepare monthly tax account analysis and maintain Tax Calendar. Responsibilities • Maintains a Tax Calendar to ensure the timely filing of all tax returns and the payment of taxes when due. • Tracks monthly consultant fees and reviews related accrual. • Timely reviews real estate tax bills for accuracy. • Timely remits property tax and income tax payments electronically or submits check requests as required and maintains payment log. • Matches refund checks to refund claims, tracks outstanding refunds and provides appropriate account coding. • Prepares and submits journal entries for review and approval. • Prepares monthly tax account analysis to ensure the journal entries are recorded appropriately. • Prepares other general ledger account analysis to determine the appropriate accounting for tax purposes. • Manages the compliance related to Annual Reports, Tax Notices and provides W-9’s as needed. • Prints and assembles documents required to be paper-filed and delivers to post office to ensure timely filing. • Collaborates with supervisors to implement the ways in which new AI technology will create new efficiencies for the team. • Prepares State and Local Partnership and related tax returns using OneSource. • Prepares quarterly and annual workpapers to support calculation of Partnership Income and Cash Distributions. • Studies tax laws, regulations, court decisions, and other tax information to keep abreast of new developments and considers their application to Company affairs. • Prepares correspondence with tax authorities. • Assists in the tax audits performed by government agents by compiling required factual data. Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field required. • CPA preferred. • 1-3 years of Income Tax experience is required, preferably Partnership. • Working knowledge of Microsoft products, especially Excel and Word. • Basic knowledge of tax law and ability to utilize research subscriptions, preferably Checkpoint. • Working knowledge of Income Tax preparation software, preferably OneSource. • Ability to effectively communicate with people in or outside the company. • Ability to analyze general ledger accounts, reconcile between Balance Sheet and P&L accounts. • Strong organizational skills are required. .
