Training Specialist

Job Summary

The Marathon Kenai Refinery, located in Kenai, Alaska, is looking for a Training Specialist who is a highly motivated individual interested in coordinating, developing, teaching, supporting and documenting training activities across all departments. This position reports to the Personal Safety Manager.  A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to coordinate multiple projects aimed at engaging a diverse workforce in actively owning their learning and development.  They will also possess excellent communication, organizational, and technical skills. 

The available onsite schedule for the position which is a 9/80 and support of TAR once every 3 years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate training programs at the refinery by working with department representatives and external vendors to schedule and provide quality training classes ensuring customer needs and regulatory requirements are met.

  • Work with employees, leaders and various subject matter experts to identify training needs.

  • Perform administrative support for all daily Learning Management System activities as needed.

  • Generate and use reports and statistics as needed to help drive training participation and completions.

  • Communicate to employees and leaders about upcoming training events and learning exceptions.

  • Assist and coordinate the dissemination of training information and materials as needed.

  • Generate reports as needed during audits.

  • Prepare tasks for all training events.

  • Maintain an awareness level of MPC and governmental regulations.

  • Maintain employee electronic training records system

  • Prepare orientation on programs for new hourly and salary employees.

  • Develop and deliver in-house training programs, classes, exams and evaluations.

  • Active member on the Kenai Emergency Response Team.

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Must have five (5) years of experience.

  • Must be proficiency, including Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Must be willing to be an active member on the Kenai Emergency Response Team.

  • Must have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills to deliver training and engage stakeholders.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery, be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)

  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.

  • Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

  • Must be able to work the available onsite schedule for the position which is a 9/80 and support of TAR once every 3 years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area is preferred.

  • Proficient with Learning Managing System such as Workday and Instructional Design experience is preferred. 

  • Proficient with Power BI & SharePoint experience is preferred.

  • Familiarity with digital tools, database management, and e-learning platforms is preferred.

  • Knowledge of learning theories, training methods, and content development is preferred.

Relocation is not available.
