About the role
As an Engineering Lead responsible for our Work Management team at Wise, you will guide this established group as it transitions out of a wider department to become its own dedicated function. Your focus will be on aligning Wise's business requirements with our Atlassian tech-stack to minimize friction and maximize productivity for internal users. You will manage a global team of 6 engineers across Tallinn and Hyderabad, overseeing the technical roadmap, architectural integrity, and security of our integrations while ensuring the team continues to deliver reliable solutions with speed and quality.
Why you should join us
Scale & Impact: You’ll be responsible for systems that support thousands of global employees in a fast-growing, publicly-traded fintech.
Autonomy: We don’t do micro-management. You’ll own your roadmap, choosing the best technical paths to solve work management challenges.
Complex Problem Solving: From scaling global Atlassian instances to building bespoke integrations between Jira, Confluence, and our internal tools, the technical challenges are constant.
Mission-Driven Culture: Join a company that values transparency, "customer is first" (even internal customers), and getting it done. We empower teams to make decisions and take ownership. We value clear outcomes, strong cross-functional partnerships and measurable impact. Read more about how we work here.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Technical Leadership: Own the technical roadmap of the team, ensuring it addresses important technical debt, reliability, security, and scalability concerns.
People Management: Manage the performance, well-being, and growth of 6 engineers across Tallinn and Hyderabad through feedback and active coaching.
Architecture & Integration: Lead architectural reviews of integrations, document systems, and identify areas for optimisation.
Data & Reporting: Oversee the creation of scalable project and work management workflows, optimising connections, Atlassian integrations, and dashboard performance.
Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with cross-functional teams to develop long-term strategy and communicate complex technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
Site Leadership: Take on foundational leadership responsibilities for the Platform Tribe in Hyderabad, helping to scale the local engineering presence alongside your existing team in Tallinn
What we’re looking for (Must-have)
Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience managing engineering or technical teams, with a proven track record of developing talent.
Work Management Domain Expertise: Deep experience with the Atlassian tech stack (Jira, Confluence) and a solid understanding of modern work management and collaboration ecosystems.
Technical Background: Strong experience delivering technical roadmaps and making architecture/integration decisions (APIs, identity/SSO, data model, vendor integrations), as well as advanced skills in Atlassian administration, custom workflows, and reporting.
Excellent Communicator with Stakeholder Mastery: Demonstrated success building partnerships across engineering, product, and operations with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Analytical Mindset: You use data to prioritize your roadmap and measure the success of your team's output.
Ability to thrive in Ambiguity: You are comfortable navigating unclear requirements and shifting priorities. You can build structure out of chaos and make pragmatic decisions even when all the facts aren't yet available.
Nice to have
Fintech Experience: Experience working in a regulated financial environment with data privacy and audit requirements (DORA, SOX, and GDPR).
System Migration Experience: You’ve led a team through a major system implementation or migration (e.g., Atlassian cloud migrations or consolidating instances).
Agile Methodology: Expert-level proficiency or certification in Agile methodologies.
