As a Human Factors Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping intuitive, safe, and effective medical devices by applying human factors engineering and interaction design principles across our product portfolio.
This role sits within R&D and contributes to both new product development and support of launched products, working cross‑functionally with engineering, quality, regulatory, and commercial teams.
What will you be doing?
Lead and support Human Factors and Industrial Design activities for new medical device product development programs.
Translate user needs into clear interaction, usability, and experience design recommendations.
Provide subject matter expertise (SME) to R&D teams on human factors design considerations throughout the product lifecycle.
Support launched products, including collaboration with commercial and customer‑facing teams when needed.
Work within Smith+Nephew’s Quality Management System and comply with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA/MDSAP requirements).
Contribute to project teams by making design recommendations aligned to functional strategy and business priorities.
What will you need to be successful?
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Design, Science, or a related technical field (BA/BS/BEng).
Experience or strong foundational knowledge in Human Factors Engineering, Usability, Interaction Design, or Industrial Design, preferably within regulated industries.
Familiarity with medical device development processes and working within a regulated environment.
Ability to work on low to moderate complexity problems with guidance from senior team members.
Strong communication skills and comfort working in cross‑functional teams.
A detail‑oriented mindset with commitment to quality, safety, and user‑centered design.
The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $85,750.00 - $128,750.00 USD annually and the compensation offered will depend on the candidate’s qualifications, job-related knowledge/skills, geographical location. You will be entitled to receive bonus and benefits, which include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401k, tuition reimbursement, medical leave programs, and a variety of wellness offerings.
