Salary:
Environmental Specialist I: $22.61 - $28.83
Environmental Specialist II: $23.88 - $30.45
Environmental Specialist III: $25.21 - $32.15
Performs specialized technical field and office work involving research, environmental sampling and inspection and enforcement activities to ensure compliance with the Stormwater and environmental codes of the City. Work is performed under general supervision and employees are expected to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the interpretation of applicable codes and EPA regulations. Performance is reviewed through conferences, reports, and results obtained.
Minimum Qualifications:
Environmental Specialist I:
STORMWATER: Associate's Degree with major coursework in chemistry, biology, limnology, environmental engineering or related field and six (6) months experience in environmental science, preferably including field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association Stormwater C Certificate OR Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator Level 1 Certificate, or equivalent desired. Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification, or equivalent, and a Boating Safety Course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission required within one (1) year of employment. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
Environmental Specialist II:
STORMWATER: Associate's Degree with major coursework in chemistry, biology, limnology, environmental engineering or related field and three (3) years experience in environmental science, preferably including field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association Stormwater C Certificate OR Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator Level 1 Certificate, or equivalent, required within one (1) year of employment. Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Operator Certification, or equivalent, required. Boating Safety Course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, required. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
Environmental Specialist III:
STORMWATER: Associate's Degree with major coursework in chemistry, biology, limnology, environmental engineering or related field and six (6) years experience in environmental science, preferably including field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association Stormwater B Certificate, or Florida Stormwater Association Stormwater Operator Level 2 Certificate, required. Florida Stormwater, Erosion and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certification, or equivalent, required. Boating Safety Course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission required. Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Standard Operating Procedures for Field Activities Certification through TREEO or FDEP-approved organization, required. Must have passed and continue to maintain FDEP’s Expert Status [Certification] for Lake Vegetation Index. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
