Positions in Cancer Survivorship, Population and Nursing Sciences
Assistant Professor, Tenure-track
University of Miami
School of Nursing and Health Studies and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We seek a candidate interested in joining a transformative, collaborative initiative between the cancer center and the nursing school, with research interests and expertise in cancer survivorship and population sciences.
We are particularly interested in a highly collaborative team scientist with expertise in one or more of the following areas: cancer and aging; dissemination and implementation science; and AI/ML or big data analytics. These areas would complement existing and developing research programs in symptom and toxicity measurement and management; patient-reported outcomes (PROs); technology-supported behavioral and psychosocial interventions; biobehavioral mechanisms in cancer control; electronic health records (EHR), bioinformatics, and value-based models of cancer survivorship care; health disparities in specific survivorship subgroups (e.g., LGBT, Hispanic, elderly populations); cardiometabolic health in cancer survivors; epidemiological cohort studies; and lifestyle medicine and translational science research.
The School of Nursing and Health Studies and Sylvester, an NCI-designated cancer center, provide an excellent platform for research and education, with a broad and diverse scientific portfolio spanning cancer prevention, control, survivorship, and population sciences.
This position will be housed in the School of Nursing, which is closely aligned with the cancer center’s mission and the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, led by nationally and internationally recognized experts in nursing and cancer control sciences. Within the cancer center, the candidate will be a member of the Cancer Control Research Program, with rich opportunities for collaborative research within the program and across Sylvester’s Tumor Biology, Cancer Epigenetics, and Translational and Clinical Oncology research programs.
The candidate will have a primary appointment in the School of Nursing and Health Studies, with opportunities for relevant secondary appointments across multiple departments within the University, aligned with their interests and academic fit. SONHS ranks 11th in NIH funding among nursing schools.
SONHS facilities include over 53,000 square feet dedicated to high-tech classrooms, seminar rooms, and computer labs supporting research and education, as well as a 1,225-square-foot Biobehavioral Laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art tools for molecular assessments (e.g., cell culture, DNA methylation, gene expression, protein quantification) and biospecimen storage. In addition, SONHS houses a fully equipped, 5-story, 41,000-square-foot Simulation Hospital that replicates the flow of clinical and hospital practice and serves as a global destination for simulation-based education, research, and service.
The candidate should possess an active RN license and a PhD in Nursing Science or a related discipline, along with a strong record of scholarly publications and a demonstrated history or strong potential for extramural funding. The ideal candidate will show exceptional promise in cancer survivorship, population sciences, and nursing research.
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, tenure-track appointment with a flexible start date.
