General Notes

This role supports mental health programs and initiatives developed through the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC), with a focus on improving the quality and accessibility of mental health care for children and adolescents across Texas. The University of Texas Dell Medical School is a Health Related Institution (HRI) for the TCMHCC. The Graduate Assistant will support communications for programs like Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT), Perinatal Psychiatry Access Network (PeriPAN) and Child Psychiatry Access Network (CPAN), Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM), and other related mental health programs. TCHATT provides telemedicine or telehealth programs to school districts to help identify and assess the behavioral health needs of children and adolescents and provide access to mental health services. CPAN and PeriPAN provide primary care clinic providers and OBGYNs prompt access to on-call psychiatrists to provide expertise in assessment, treatment, and referrals for pediatric and/or perinatal patients identified as having a mental health challenge. YAM is a school-based program for students in eighth through 12th grades to learn about and explore the topic of mental health. This position has a start date of 5/16/2026 and an end date of 8/15/2026. There may be the opportunity to renew this position based upon availability of funding, work performance, and progress toward goals. Funding is expected to continue.

Purpose

The Graduate Assistant will assist with the development and execution of visual and digital communications in support of TCMHCC programs, including CPAN, PeriPAN, and TCHATT. The role is responsible for designing high-quality, accessible, and culturally responsive materials that translate complex clinical and programmatic information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences. In addition to graphic design, this position assists with digital communications across websites, email campaigns, and social media, while maintaining brand consistency and optimizing audience engagement through data-driven insights.

The role supports strategic communications planning, assists in developing integrated written and visual content, and ensures alignment with institutional priorities and guidelines. The Graduate Assistant will collaborate with clinicians, outreach teams, and external vendors to assist in producing materials for events, trainings, and stakeholder engagement, while overseeing distribution lists, content access, and reporting for communication campaigns. Internally, the role contributes to cross-functional coordination, supports internal communications, and maintains organized systems for content and design assets.

Responsibilities

Graphic Design & Visual Content Development (Primary Focus): 

  • Design high-quality visual materials including infographics, brochures, flyers, social media graphics, reports, and slide decks to support TCMHCC programs (CPAN, PeriPAN, TCHATT). 
  • Develop and maintain cohesive branding, templates, and visual identity across multiple mental health initiatives. 
  • Translate complex psychiatric, clinical, and programmatic information into clear, engaging, and culturally responsive visual formats. 
  • Collaborate with clinicians, program leaders, and subject matter experts to produce accurate and audience-friendly visual content. 
  • Create multimedia assets (e.g., short videos, digital campaigns) to increase program visibility and engagement. 

Digital Communications & Distribution: 

  • Manage dissemination of content across digital platforms including websites, email campaigns, and social media channels. 
  • Maintain and update program websites and digital assets for CPAN, PeriPAN, and TCHATT, including website design and content editing in WordPress. 
  • Monitor engagement metrics and recommend improvements to optimize reach among providers, educators, and families. 
  • Ensure ADA and accessibility compliance for digital materials. 

Content Development & Communications Strategy: 

  • Develop integrated written and visual content for newsletters, websites, reports, and social media that promote TCMHCC initiatives. 
  • Ensure all communications align with legislative priorities, university standards, and consortium goals. 
  • Support execution of strategic communication plans to expand awareness and utilization of mental health access programs. 
  • Edit and proofread materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to branding guidelines.  

 

Events, Outreach & Stakeholder Engagement: 

  •  Develop visual and presentation materials for webinars, trainings, conferences, and outreach events supporting TCMHCC programs. 
  • Collaborate with outreach teams, printing vendors, and finance departments to ensure communication collateral and printed materials are prepared for stakeholder engagement activities. 
  • Prepare materials and talking points for clinicians and leadership to support presentations and community interactions. 
  • Collaborate with translation vendors and finance departments to produce materials in multiple languages based on audience needs.  

Management of Distribution Lists, Reporting & Content Access: 

  • Maintain distribution lists across multiple platforms, including Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Box, Mailchimp, Salesforce, and SharePoint. 
  • Manage document access for a range of internal and external stakeholder groups. 
  •  Maintain inventory of communications inventory. 
  • Report on mass communication campaigns to the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium. 
  • Coordinate and follow institutional review and approval processes for external content prior to dissemination.  

Internal Communications & Coordination: 

  •  Assist with internal communications, including employee newsletters, program updates, websites/hubs, employee biographies, and cross-department initiatives. 
  • Coordinate communication workflows and maintain organized repositories of design and content assets. 
  • Participate in interdepartmental and cross-institutional meetings to support communication alignment across programs.

Required Qualifications

  • A degree-seeking graduate student enrolled in sufficient credits at the University of Texas, Austin. 
  • (9 credit hours in fall/spring semesters, 3 credit hours in summer semester) 
  • Ability to maintain a regular and consistent schedule. 
  • Demonstration of professional demeanor. 
  • Experience working with design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or other CMS platform). 
  • Experience working with Google Workspace (formerly Google Suite) and Microsoft Office platforms. 
  • Ability to translate complex healthcare or technical information into engaging visual formats. 
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills. 
  •  Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior communication experience. 
  • Interested in the field of mental health. 
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).  
  • Experience with digital tools, including CMS and CRM platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, WordPress, and Salesforce). 
  • Experience with project management platforms (e.g., Smartsheet, Kanbanchi, or similar tools). 
  • Experience using file storage and collaboration platforms (e.g., Box, Google Drive, SharePoint/OneDrive, or Uniqode). 
  • Experience working within multi-institutional or cross-program communication environments. 
  • Familiarity with branding guidelines across multiple institutions. 

Work Location

This position will work remotely at the start of employment. The supervisor will work to identify the needs of the School and communicate the days and/or times expected to report on-site, up to 20 hours per week. The needs of the Dell Medical School will be reviewed on a regular basis, and ample notice will be provided of any changes. Remote work will require reliable internet access and a suitable workspace free from distractions.  

Salary Range
$22.00 Hourly
