Job description

The Welding Lab Technician is a technical responsible for laboratories associated with the Welding Technology Institute Program. The responsibilities will include maintenance of the technology labs; turning in work orders for equipment repair; organization and cleanliness of the laboratories; setting up of laboratory projects for students and demonstrations; assisting students in laboratory projects; overseeing and coordinating the competency-based projects performed in the laboratory

Major Responsibilities:
  • Perform cleaning and organization of the program laboratories

  • Prepare materials and equipment for laboratory use

  • Maintain, upgrade and test existing equipment

  • Inspect and test all safety equipment in the laboratorie

  • Assist students with course assignments as needed and monitor competency-based lab projects

  • Assist in the security and inventory of program equipment and facilities

  • Must have fundamental knowledge of the operation of the major equipment in the technology labs

  • Assist faculty in maintaining Welding Task Sheets and delivery of the competency-based lab projects

Other duties as assigned

SPECIFIC DUTIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Communicate effectively and work cooperative with students, faculty (both full time and part time), peers, administration, and community contacts using appropriate grammar and interpersonal skills

  • Be proficient in the use of Welding equipment

  • Exercise safe procedures in the use and operation of hand and power tools.

  • Computer data entry to assist instructor

Location: Valparaiso

Hourly Rate: $15.00

Schedule: Hours will depend on classes assigned but may include evenings. 20 - 28 hours a week

Requirements:

  • Associate of Applied Science degree and two years of related industry experience OR
  • five years of experience and AWS/CWI (or equivalent) Certification.
  • Also requires excellent communication skills and experience in all welding techniques used in the College Based and Dual Credit WELD programs.
