Job Description:
Job Duties:
- Assist Professional Land Surveyor in all aspects of boundary surveying.
- Research corner records and other data, including county survey and corner tie records, road records, deeds of record, railroad plats, NDOT plans, and field books with limited direction.
- Make sure all supplies required for field work are loaded.
- Search for corners, taking Global Positioning System observations, and tying the found monuments, including downloading and uploading data with limited direction.
- Interpret legal descriptions and compute survey information for bearings, distances, and coordinate values.
- Draft the survey plat and the corner tie sheets by computer-aided drafting and prepare for filing with the repository after approval by the Professional Surveyor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Two-year post-high school degree in land surveying. Experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience/knowledge of Trimble Global Positioning equipment and Trimble Business Center software as well as Bentley Open Roads Computer Aided Drafting software.
- Experience working with or through NDOT Right of Way Survey Staff.
Other:
- Must have a valid driver’s license or ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
- Overnight travel is required.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Coordinate, trigonometry, and survey principles.
Skills in:
- Reading highway plans, using calculators, and basic computer operations.
- Effective communication skills are required to perform the essential functions of the job.
Ability to:
- Conduct field surveying, with limited direction, when the licensed Land Surveyor is not available.
- Set up survey equipment and operate a 70-pound jackhammer as well as a shovel, picks, and digging equipment safely and effectively.
- Safely move, drag, lift, load, and unload various equipment, materials, and supplies with or without assistance.
- Climb, stoop, and work in outdoor environments in all types of weather.
