Job Description Summary:

The Strategic Enrollment Data Analyst supports data-informed decision making throughout the Enrollment Strategy division by collecting, analyzing, and presenting data that inform recruitment, financial aid, student success, and long-term enrollment planning. This role performs core analytical functions including reporting, visualization, and statistical analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Contribute to the development, refinement, and ongoing maintenance of W&M’s predictive and prescriptive enrollment models; assist with evaluating model performance and coordinating with external partners when applicable.
• Support the division’s data fluency efforts by providing training, technical assistance, and guidance on best practices in data use and interpretation.
• Collaborate with Admissions, the Registrar, and Financial Aid to implement shared data standards, reporting processes, and integrated data products.
• With direction from the Vice Provost, define analytical questions, collect and analyze data, and produce clear and accurate reports including the preparation of reports for the quarterly Board of Visitors meetings.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, recurring reports, and data visualizations covering recruitment, admission, financial aid, student progression, and graduation trends.
• Assist in identifying new data sources, evaluating analytical techniques, and recommending enhancements to existing enrollment models.
• Partner with senior leadership and consultants on data preparation, quality assurance, and analysis for predictive modeling projects.
• Support project coordination by documenting data requirements, assisting with vendor communication, and translating end-user needs into reporting or dashboard specifications.
• Identify and support opportunities for process improvement in reporting workflows and analytics operations.
• Fulfill scheduled and ad-hoc data requests by writing queries, conducting analyses, and delivering accurate, timely results.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and tools; pursue ongoing professional development to support evolving analytics needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice Provost for Enrollment Strategy.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in data science/analytics or Bachelor’s degree in analytics, data science, computer science, applied mathematics, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

  • Extensive experience in data analytics or data science.

  • Demonstrated experience conducting data analysis, identifying trends, and applying statistical or analytical methods to support data-informed decision making.

  • Experience using analytics or data science tools to frame business questions, prepare and analyze data, support predictive/prescriptive modeling, and communicate insights to stakeholders.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey analytical concepts to audiences with diverse levels of technical understanding.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build effective relationships across departments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education, particularly with enrollment management processes, data, and systems.

  • Familiarity with Technolutions Slate (or similar CRM/enrollment management platforms).

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner, WorkDay or comparable student information systems.

  • Proficiency in data visualization and dashboard development

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through in a high-volume operational context.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute effectively to collaborative projects and team initiatives.

Duties: 

40% - Data Analysis, Reporting & Insight Delivery:

  • Analyze applicant, admit, yield, retention, and graduation patterns to support W&M’s enrollment goals.

  • Produce recurring and ad hoc reports for the Office of Enrollment Strategy, Undergraduate Admission, Financial Aid, the Provost’s Office, and other campus partners.

  • Develop and maintain dashboards that monitor key enrollment metrics across cycles.

  • Translate complex data findings into clear, actionable insights that inform strategic decisions across the university.

 

25% - Research, Forecasting & Strategic Modeling:

  • Build and refine enrollment forecasts, scenario models, and scholarship optimization tools to support W&M’s long-term planning.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment campaigns, territory management, and communication strategies using empirical evidence.

  • Conduct market and demographic research to anticipate shifts affecting W&M’s applicant pipeline.

  • Support strategic enrollment initiatives by providing data-driven recommendations to leadership.

 

10% - Data Stewardship, Systems Management & Process Integrity:

  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency within Slate, Banner, WorkDay and related enrollment systems.

  • Manage data imports/exports and maintain documentation for data definitions and business processes.

  • Collaborate with IT, Institutional Research, and Enrollment Strategy colleagues to resolve data issues and streamline workflows.

  • Support testing and validation during system updates or process enhancements.

 

10% - Cross-Campus Collaboration & Strategic Support:

  • Partner with Undergraduate Admission, Financial Aid, University Marketing, and Institutional Research on shared data needs.

  • Present findings to campus stakeholders and help build data literacy around enrollment trends.

  • Serve on committees or working groups that advance W&M’s enrollment strategy and operational planning.

 

10% - Compliance, Benchmarking & Professional Growth:

  • Prepare data aligned with state, federal, and accreditation reporting standards relevant to enrollment.

  • Benchmark W&M’s enrollment performance against peer institutions and national datasets.

  • Maintain awareness of emerging practices in enrollment analytics, CRM capabilities, higher education trends, and applicable research.

 

5% - Other duties as assigned

Posting Range: Up to $113,000 commensurate with experience.
