Legal Assistant/Claims Manager

Tower 42, London

Hybrid working - 1-2 days per week in office

Full Time - 37.5 Hours

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity to join our close-knit legal team as a Legal Assistant/Claims Manager on a permanent basis.  This role will suit an enthusiastic team player who is thoughtful and interested in having a varied and engaging workload. The position is London based with incredible office views of the city skyline. We are currently hybrid working, going into the office one or two days a week, although the office is open all week if required.

Some legal experience would be helpful but training can be provided. And there may be an opportunity to develop into a paralegal role in due course.

As Legal Assistant/Claims Manager you will provide administrative support to the Legal Team and be responsible for managing Ramsay’s claims and litigation cases, reporting directly to the Head of Legal, with support from the members of the legal team.

The Type of Work You Will Be Doing:

  • Act as the central point of accountability for all new claims and litigation‑related enquiries, including triaging matters, responding to external solicitors, and advising hospital teams on claim handling requirements and timescales.
  • Manage end‑to‑end claims administration, including ownership of the Legal Claims inbox, liaison with insurers, underwriters, and panel solicitors, and maintenance of accurate, auditable claims registers and management information.
  • Lead the collection, review, and management of complex claim documentation, working closely with clinical, operational, and corporate stakeholders to ensure complete, defensible files that support both insured and self‑insured positions.
  • Produce and support legal and claims reporting for senior management and the wider business, contributing to analysis of trends, emerging risks, and lessons learned, as well as supporting ad‑hoc strategic and operational projects.
  • Support the management of patient complaints, Coroner’s inquests, and a range of dispute types, providing administrative coordination, document control, and liaison with internal stakeholders and external legal representatives.
  • Maintain and continuously develop the Legal team’s policies, precedents, templates, and know‑how resources, ensuring documentation reflects current legal, regulatory, and operational practice and supports consistent claims handling across the organisation.
  • Oversee the processing and control of legal invoices, liaising with internal Finance teams and external suppliers to resolve queries, monitor spend, and support robust financial governance.
  • Provide legal operations support including new starter onboarding administration.
  • Administer legal team rostering and operational support to the Legal team, including attendance at meetings, preparation of minutes where required, and administrative support for the delivery of internal legal training activities.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Comfortable managing a varied workload
  • Manage confidential and sensitive correspondence with discretion
  • Well organised and able to work to deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively in group settings and before senior management
  • Ability to work under pressure, where necessary
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to learn and develop

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Working knowledge of office 365 applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of, or interest in the legal aspects of the healthcare sector
