Job description

Position Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Extended School Year (ESY) Special Education Paraprofessional to support students with disabilities during the summer program. The paraprofessional will work under the direction of a certified special education teacher to help students maintain essential academic, behavioral, and functional skills outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to students in small group and one-on-one settings
  • Assist in implementing IEP goals, accommodations, and modifications
  • Support students with academic tasks, communication, and social skills
  • Reinforce instruction and practice skills introduced by the teacher
  • Assist with behavior management and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Help maintain a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment
  • Support students with daily living or functional skills as needed
  • Collect data and provide feedback to the teacher on student progress
  • Assist with classroom setup, materials, and organization
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Experience working with children or students with disabilities preferred
  • Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting all learners

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a paraprofessional or instructional aide
  • Familiarity with special education practices and behavior supports
  • Experience in school or summer program settings

  • The person in this position needs to be able to move about inside and outside the school or office throughout the workday.

  • The candidate is expected to attend conferences, meetings and training sessions both virtually and in person within the Region. 

Work Environment

  • Reports to work Monday-Friday.

  • Typical school or office environment with frequent interruptions.

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to work location. 

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary for this positoin is $2,225 for the entire summer session.
