We are seeking a GIS Specialist I to join our team for projects in California. This is an exciting opportunity to start a career with an internationally-known infrastructure consulting firm.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Will utilize ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ESRI Field Maps to complete map production, spatial analysis, and maintain complex geospatial databases.
- Edit and maintain large-scale spatial datasets while ensuring high levels of topological consistency and attribute accuracy.
- Will perform end-to-end data lifecycle, from initial field acquisition to office-based QA/QC and final GIS integration.
- Utilize Trimble software solutions, including Trimble Access and Trimble TeraFlex for streamlined mobile mapping and data collection.
- Will utilize Trimble Mobile Manager for hardware configuration and Trimble Business Center (TBC) for post-processing and data verification.
- Will perform a variety of field data collection tasks and assist Senior Technicians in support of Subsurface Utility Investigation activities.
- Will set up and operate mapping and surveying equipment; be responsible for inspecting equipment and maintaining project documentation.
- Utilize a suite of advanced geophysical equipment (to include Ground Penetrating Radar), observational skills, and deductive reasoning to identify, designate and locate (vacuum excavation) all utilities within a requested job scope in accordance with American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 38-02 & 38-22.
- Will regularly communicate with field and office staff.
- Establish a basic understanding of procedures and company policies to plan and accomplish basic goals.
- Adhere to AECOM strict standards for safety and quality.
Minimum Requirements:
- BS Degree + none or AS Degree + 2 years of related experience; or HS Diploma + 4 years of related experience
- Experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro, including map production and spatial analysis
- Valid US Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
- Position requires frequent traveling to field locations. Locations and distances vary and could include occasional overnight travel
- Frequent lifting of equipment up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Frequent outdoor work in a variety of seasonal weather conditions
- Daily walking several miles to perform job duties. Frequently across outdoor construction environments with a variety of uneven terrains such as mud, rock, grass, dirt and other unpaved terrains and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise
- As a condition of employment, candidate must pass all client required background check(s)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mobile mapping, surveying or construction related experience
- SUE and/or private locating experience
- Experience with and understanding of SUE practices and procedures in accordance with ASCE 38-02 & 38-22
- Detailed-oriented and ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude
- Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
- Troubleshooting skills and be willing and able to learn new procedures and technologies
- Relocation is not available for this role.
