Job description
Overview The Nurse Manager is responsible for total operations within a specific area in the hospital. This includes coordinating the services of all contributing disciplines and administering the nursing component of the care within the espoused nursing philosophy. The incumbent is guided by a comprehensive knowledge of current nursing theory and practice; knowledge of organization and departmental functions; policies, regulations, and procedures of the hospital; knowledge and application of principles of leadership. Job Details Key Responsibilities Staffing & Supervision Plans and maintains appropriate staffing levels across all shifts. Approves schedules, manages time sheets, and ensures adequate coverage. Participates in recruitment, interviewing, and orientation of new staff. Assigns preceptors, evaluates new hires, and supports professional development. Conducts performance appraisals and addresses employee performance or attendance issues. Budget & Resource Management Participates in departmental budgeting and cost-control initiatives. Monitors use of equipment and supplies; implements cost-saving measures. Ensures economical use of resources and staff involvement in budget awareness. Education & Staff Development Plans and facilitates in-service education, continuing education, and clinical training programs. Collaborates with educational affiliates to coordinate student experiences. Serves as a resource and role model for nursing staff, fostering clinical competence and professional growth. Performance Improvement & Quality Management Develops, implements, and evaluates performance improvement initiatives. Conducts reviews, analyzes outcomes, and initiates corrective actions in collaboration with the Director. Ensures adherence to professional standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies. Communication & Collaboration Conducts regular staff meetings and maintains communication across shifts. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and other departments to ensure cohesive patient care. Reports unit activities, needs, and outcomes to Nursing Administration. Professional & Self Development Maintains active participation in committees and professional organizations. Pursues ongoing education and self-assessment for professional growth. Promotes a respectful, patient-centered environment that honors cultural and religious diversity. Compliance & Conduct Adheres to infection control, confidentiality, and patient rights policies. Demonstrates consistent attendance, professional appearance, and ethical conduct. Performs additional duties as required, including emergency assignments. QUALIFICATIONS: Passion for Nursing Education Minimum 3-5 years experience in specific area. Leadership or Nursing Education experience preferred Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree required Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree prefered Licensure: New York Registered Nurse (RN) License & Registration Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Preferred Certifications: BCLS Instructor certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification Salary Range USD $128,000.00 - USD $160,000.00 /Yr. This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
