Position Overview Position Summary The Employment Counsel will serve as a trusted legal advisor to SiteOne’s Human Resources, Compliance, and business leadership teams on all aspects of U.S. and Canada employment law. This role will provide practical, risk‑based guidance across a complex, multi‑state / province associate population and support SiteOne’s continued growth through acquisition while ensuring compliance with evolving federal, state, and local employment laws. This position partners closely with HR leadership, HR Business Partners, Compliance, and outside counsel to proactively manage employment risk, support workplace investigations, and develop scalable employment practices. What You’ll Do Provide day‑to‑day legal advice on a broad range of employment law matters, including employee relations, performance management, disciplinary actions, leaves of absence, accommodation requests, reductions in force, and terminations. Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including but not limited to FLSA, FMLA, ADA, PWFA, Title VII, ADEA, WARN, NLRA, and state pay transparency and wage/hour requirements. Support HR and business leaders in responding to employment claims, demand letters, agency charges (EEOC, DOL, state agencies), and pre‑litigation matters. Manage and coordinate employment litigation and agency matters with outside counsel, including strategy, document production, and cost management. Conduct and advise on internal workplace investigations involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other policy violations. Review, draft, and update employment‑related policies, handbooks, agreements, and forms to ensure legal compliance and operational practicality. Provide legal support for M&A activity, including employment due diligence, onboarding of acquired employees, and post‑acquisition integration. Partner with HR and Compliance to develop training for leaders and HR teams on employment law topics and risk mitigation. Monitor and communicate emerging employment law trends and regulatory developments affecting SiteOne’s operations. Skills We Are Seeking What We’re Seeking Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. Minimum of 8 years of employment law experience, preferably in a corporate legal department and/or management‑side employment law firm. Strong, practical knowledge of multi‑state employment law compliance in a distributed workforce environment. Experience supporting or partnering closely with Human Resources teams. Demonstrated ability to balance legal risk with business and operational realities. Excellent judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills; able to influence at all levels of the organization. Experience in wholesale distribution, industrial, manufacturing, retail, or similarly complex operating environments is a plus.
