Job description

Drill Helper

Location: Maui, Hawaiʻi — with travel to neighboring islands.
Department: Drilling
Reports to: Driller
Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $25-$30 per hour + Prevailing wage rates

The Opportunity

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Drill Helper who isn’t afraid of hard work, heavy equipment, mud, sweat, long days, or doing the little things right when nobody is watching.

This is not a “stand around and wait to be told twice” kind of job.

This is a boots-on-the-ground, hands-on-the-rig, show-up-early, move-with-purpose kind of role. You’ll work directly with the Driller to support water well drilling, rig setup, pipe handling, equipment maintenance, material movement, jobsite cleanup, and the daily grind that keeps drilling operations moving safely and efficiently.

If you’re dependable, physically tough, coachable, safety-minded, and ready to build real skills in one of Hawaiʻi’s most essential trades — this could be your shot.

About Alpha Inc.

Alpha Inc. is a locally rooted Hawaiʻi company delivering construction, drilling, energy, concrete, and infrastructure solutions that help build and support island communities.

We don’t just talk about values. We expect them in the field, in the shop, on the road, and on every jobsite.

Lead with Heart – Respect the crew, protect the team, and bring the right attitude every day.
Strength in Unity – No lone wolves. We win because we work as one.
Alpha Mentality – Own your work, push through challenges, and take pride in doing the job right.

As a Drill Helper, you’ll be part of the crew that turns tough ground into finished work — safely, cleanly, and with pride.

What You Will Do

You’ll support the Driller in the construction and decommissioning of water wells while keeping safety, quality, and execution at the front of everything you do.

You will:

  • Assist with water well drilling operations, rigging, lifting, and general field labor.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Help set up rigs and drilling equipment for daily operations.
  • Connect and disconnect drill pipe during drilling activities.
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment used in the drilling process.
  • Support equipment and truck maintenance, including greasing, fueling, and pre-trip inspections.
  • Collect drill cuttings as directed by the Driller.
  • Keep jobsites, trucks, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and ready.
  • Assist with cleanup of mud pits, drains, and work areas.
  • Follow safety procedures without shortcuts, excuses, or ego.
  • Travel to neighboring islands as needed for project work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Driller or leadership team.

What You Bring

You don’t need to be the most experienced person on the jobsite.

You do need to be the person who shows up ready, listens well, works hard, stays alert, and takes pride in earning trust.

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of construction experience preferred.
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to neighboring islands as project needs require.
  • Experience using hand tools and mechanical equipment preferred.
  • Ability to follow instructions in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and jobsite professionalism.

Physical Requirements

This is real field work. You must be able to:

  • Lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Bend, kneel, stand, walk, climb, and work around heavy equipment.
  • Climb to various heights safely and without hesitation.
  • Work outdoors in changing weather and jobsite conditions.
  • Perform physically demanding labor while maintaining focus and safety.

Skills & Mindset

You’ll stand out if you are:

  • Dependable and on time.
  • Tough, steady, and willing to learn.
  • Focused on safety without needing reminders.
  • Organized enough to keep tools, trucks, and jobsites clean.
  • Calm under pressure and willing to solve problems.
  • Clear in your communication with the crew.
  • Serious about integrity, respect, and doing things the right way.
  • Hungry to grow in the drilling trade.

Most importantly, you embody:

Lead with Heart – You treat people with respect, even when the work is hard.
Strength in Unity – You know the crew is only as strong as the teammate next to them.
Alpha Mentality – You bring grit, ownership, and pride to the job every day.
