Description of Work

All previous applicants MUST reapply to be considered. ***The Horticultural Crops Research Station is hiring an Agricultural Technician II with growth potential for a fulfilling career in the agricultural industry. Our mission is to serve as a platform for agricultural research to make farming more efficient, productive, and profitable, while maintaining a sound environment and providing consumers with safe and affordable products.
Applied field research is conducted on various crops including sweetpotatoes, melons, tomatoes, peppers, squash, and new and emerging specialty crops. Our ideal candidate will have experience in general horticultural crop production and farm equipment operation.
Key responsibilities include:
• Routine tasks such as general grounds maintenance, assisting with the layout of research plots, planting, cultivation, spray applications and harvesting.
• Operation and maintenance of farm equipment.
• Work may include other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Recruitment Range: $31,200 - $49,000
- General understanding of horticultural crop production
- General understanding of land preparation, transplanting, cultivating, fertilization, disease and pest control, and harvesting.
- Ability to operate various tractors and equipment commonly used in a farm environment.
- Ability to lift 50lbs routinely and perform work in adverse weather conditions.
- Valid Driver’s License
Obtain within twelve months of employment the following:
- Forklift Driver Certificate
- Public Pesticide Applicator License
