Job Description

The Web Developer creates and updates survey content, navigates specification documents in Word, Excel and/or PDF and communicates directly with sponsors. Makes certain all pages arc 508 compliant, creates and updates features of survey using Communicate directly with sponsors. Writes basic code, monitors tracker for in-testing survey and fixes issues as needed for testers.

  • Work on surveys from beginning to end- from the initial specification documents through its life on the production server and repeating when they roll over from year to year
  • Create and update survey content testing and a survey's existence on production
  • Navigate specification documents in Word, Excel and/or PDF files
  • Communicate directly with each sponsor about expectations and clarifying any ambiguous text in the specifications
  • Basic linux navigation is required (text editor, run scripts
  • Verification of forms and behind-the-scenes calculations for each survey in perl.
  • Other functional items, usually along the lines of restricting types of input or number of characters in text boxes in javascript (sometimes with jquery).
  • Make certain all pages are 508 compliant.
  • Navigate surveys to corresponding PDF forms in Acrobat Pro (pdf version, view form field names).
  • Create/update and responsible for doing what sponsor wants, which involves copying an implementation of a feature from another survey or building an entirely new function
  • Using perl code, add a js plugin to a survey, and parse data for information that will impact where to send the user next
  • Testing/bug fix which involves monitoring the tracker for each in-testing survey and responsible for fixing issues as needed for the testers
  • Run load script once to test; putting ticket in for the actual change
  • Good problem solving and communication skills
  • Willingness to proactively ask questions outside of comfort zone
  • Coding, basic understanding of how databases function, perl, javascript, jquery, PHP
  • Most of the pages are generated using an internal forms library but some manual work with HTML and CSS required

Required Skills

A basic understanding of how databases function, writing basic code in Perl/PHP, Java.script, the ability to work independently, take on responsibilities outside comfort zone, and grasp technical concepts quickly and efficiently. Good communication skills, B.S. Degree in Computer Science or related field highly preferred.
